From December 13 new bikes have been introduced, equipped with a seat for the little ones.

As announced by the mayor, the 150 new bikes available to the Milanese lovers of two wheels, of all ages, will also be equipped with "pedal assistance", the device consisting of an electric motor. In February 2016 BikeMi had already introduced a bike sharing service dedicated to children, with mini bicycles and ad hoc stations.

"By 2019 - as stated by the Councilor for Mobility and the Environment, Marco Granelli - 34 will be added, bringing the number of stations scattered around the city to 323. To grow, next year, will also be the fleet of ' yellow ', which will go from the current 3,650 to 4,280, which will join the 1,150 electric pedal assisted ".

Sala, present at the conference presenting the initiatives, underlined that the "first ten years of BikeMi highlight two aspects of BikeMi's success: the vocation of Milan towards everything that can make it more modern and sustainable and the attitude of the Milanese towards the use of the bicycle, increasingly widespread and appreciated as a means of transport ".

Zebra Freaky Fat Bike

A bike that does not actually exist yet.

A sort of downhill fat with a design to scream, but for now still only on paper, being only a rendering of a good artist.

Guillaume Bout, a French designer who likes to try his hand with strange or sporting bikes, has admitted that he has made choices based solely on the line, and not on studies on the structure, the resistance of the materials or any real use.

What if someone decided to actually put it into production?

The German government has passed a law that deters the bicycles provided by companies to their employees. A desired solution to encourage the use of ecological means to get to work and that favors both the company and the employee.

The German initiative is not the only one in Europe: even Austria, Belgium, Great Britain and France have committed themselves to this front.

The German parliament approved a standard to promote the active and sustainable mobility of commuters, leveraging the tax regime. With the new provision, companies are allowed to provide employees with season tickets or bicycles to go to work as a non-taxable company bonus.

In fact, the elimination of cycles, traditional or pedal assisted, will allow the company to reduce the outlay for the salary and the employee to have an ecological and economic means to reach the workplace. On the other hand, the law does not provide for any tax relief for the supply of company cars (electric models enjoy half-taxed taxation), thus creating a real economic advantage for companies that promote the use of low-emission vehicles for travel home-work.

The standard of tax exemption of cycles is not a German novelty. Already in Austria and Belgium are active laws designed to facilitate the use of cycles by commuters, with the tax exemption for the supply of bicycles. In Belgium there is also a tax reduction for companies investing in the construction of bicycle infrastructure, such as car parks, e-bike recharging points or company maintenance services.

In Great Britain, a different but effective system is in place. The solution adopted is to allow workers to purchase their favorite cycles with a strong discount (from 25 to 35%) and with installment payment deducted directly from the salary which, being reduced due to the installments, also involves the reduction of the taxes to be paid.

In France, the incentive to bike to work is provided by providing employees with a bonus of 25 euro cents for each kilometer traveled to the office, a solution taken in Italy by some local administrations such as the Municipality of Massarosa and the Friuli Region Venice Giulia.

We also recall that according to some studies, employees-cyclists are healthier (on average they have two days of illness less per year) and motivated.

TYREINVADER

It is aimed at off-road vehicles and those who use tubeless tires. It goes beyond the problems of "salsicciotti" that we already got to know. First of all the weight. The solution of Tyreinvader (Italian manufacturer) goes from 50 to 90 grams, against 100-250 of other solutions that provide much more material. The solution is interesting, therefore, for those who want to travel even several uphill sections without bringing too much ballast into the roof. In any case, avoid pinching but also allow you to continue pedaling in the event of a puncture.

Another point on which Effetto Mariposa's emphasis is placed is the difference in driving sensation. The differences with the presence of Tyreinvader are minimal, obviously very small compared to more cumbersome solutions that leave less space to air. The advice, even for this solution, is still to make us a bit 'of habit before use in the race.

Some insert manufacturers encourage cyclists to switch to lighter tires to partially compensate for weight gain. We do not agree with this approach, as the light sides offer limited protection against sharp rocks and abrasion, against which the inserts can not do much.

Tyreinvader is made of EVA, a closed cell polymer, and does not absorb any liquid.

Tyreinvader requires medium mechanical skills: the insert will not be able to resist those who can mount a stubborn tubeless tire!

Simply cut Tyreinvader by following the instructions (for 27.5 "and 26"; do not need to cut for 29 "), join its two ends with the two clamps (supplied), mount it inside the tire (it will stretch a bit to adapt to the circumference), add the sealant, and you are ready to pedal.

Tyreinvader does not interfere with inflation, with any tubeless valve.

Tyreinvader is made of EVA, a closed cell polymer that is normally used for the soles of running shoes. Shock absorption is very high and there is no risk of breakage even in the case of rather violent continuous impacts.

Giuseppe Drali

He goes on his bicycle again, with his own, in the face of ninety years. "I go slowly, but I still do a few turns: from home to the shop," he says one of the last real mechanics that still exist today in Milan.

"I smile at life because life still belongs to me, and then what do I want more? I'm fine and I have lots of people who love me." For almost two years I met four more friends who decided to give me a hand, and a shop boy like Alessandro, who is precious as few ".

Four entrepreneurs with a true passion for cycling. The sickest is a doctor. "It is thanks to his intuition, his sensitivity if today we are all here - says Gianluca Pozzi, CEO of the new Cicli Drali -. When he learned that Beppino wanted to close shop, we decided to get involved and do everything necessary to not interrupt this story. Drali is a heritage of cycling, so I, Angelo Mantovani, Robert Carrara and Andrea Camerana got together and at stake giving life to a great team with a single captain: Drali. The target? Do not throw in the nettle the story of a man who has traveled a great slice of history of the bicycle that with his hands still knows how to do and knows all the secrets of the bicycle. "

His "Pokerissima" is beautiful and many people want it. It will be for this return to the past. It will be for this desire of "vintage" and mania "heroic", but steel bicycles still retain a unique and special charm. "It was Carlo, my father, who opened the workshop back in 1925. At that time we were Bianchi dealers. I learned the trade from the great mechanics and weavers of that period as Pinella and Faliero Masi ».

Girardengo, Binda, Bartali, Coppi, Maspes has known them all and indirectly or directly, has done something for each of them. "We do not exaggerate, they sometimes went inside. Dad was very well known and appreciated, I have always been busy. If they had any problems, we were there. " Who is not there anymore is his Marisa, the love of his life. "We have been side by side for sixty-two years plus engagement seven. When I missed it I felt myself missing ... Then these four "bad boys" convinced me not to give up, and I'm happy to do it ».

London is planning to become the most bicycle-friendly city in the world

We report an interesting article by Gabriele Sangalli published on bikeitalia

London is planning to become the most bicycle-friendly city in the world

London Mayor Sadiq Khan announced the arrival of the Cycling Action Plan during the inauguration of a new cycle path in the northernmost part of the city.

The 5-year plan aims to triple the number of cycle paths and to introduce new quality standards for future infrastructures.

The new cycle development plan is not limited to promoting bicycle use but intends to achieve the objectives of Vision Zero (no more deaths caused by road accidents), develop new policies to promote pedestrian accessibility of places and more in general promote active mobility. All this following the general strategy promoted by the London mobility agency Transport for London.

The goal of TfL is to make London the best big cycle city in the world, to do so have allocated 2.3 billion pounds.

Within the Cycling Action Plan, 6 new criteria are indicated on how to build quality infrastructures:

  • speed of motor vehicles,
  • traffic volumes for motor vehicles,
  • accident risk at intersections,
  • width of the appropriate track
  • wide protection zones between parking lots and cycle paths
  • greater safety distances to avoid collisions with heavy vehicles
  • The need arises from the fact that often the standards are not enough to offer a product up to the expectations of the city, not by chance in the past TfL had already started to refuse consent to projects that were not of high quality.

Another new feature introduced by the plan is to rename the various existing routes, eliminating the current categories (Supercyclehighway, Quietway, Mini Holland etc.) in favor of the term "cycle", simpler and easier to guess, especially for the approaching public to the bicycle for the first time.

Sadiq Khan said he wanted to move from the current 63% of travel by public transport, bicycle and foot to reach 80% by 2041.

According to the mayor of London, having more people who choose to travel by bike is essential for the future of the city, both for the health of people and the environment.

Khan added: "The results are clear, where we have made quality cycle paths the number of cyclists has increased considerably. We aim to offer safe routes to all London citizens, from the center to the suburbs ".

According to Will Norman, London's bike manager, there is no more time to waste: "Climate change, poor air quality and an increase in the population living in the city are indicators of how it is necessary to change the mobility habits of Londoners. Cycling is the solution to these problems. "

Norman's main goal is to make the roads safer for those already pedaling and at the same time attracting new riders.

The bike manager also underlines a disturbing fact: 80% of London's children do not do physical activity, so in the plan for cycling there are plans to promote cycling within schools.

The greatest difficulty highlighted is that of being able to involve a greater number of people in changing their mobility habits. In conclusion, Norman argues that the innovations introduced by the plan will have the double effect of improving the London cycle experience and spreading good practices in the rest of Europe.

Bella Mossa!!!

We translate an article from the magazine La Repubblica from 13.12.2019

An ice cream, a movie ticket, an entrance to the pool: to get them just accumulate points. Which? Those of Bella Mossa, the initiative that for the second year in a row has successfully promoted sustainable mobility (whether it be on foot, by bike, bus, train or car sharing and car pooling) in the city of Bologna. Bella Mossa, in fact, has transformed the movements in points and in a green challenge between friends and colleagues: an incentive scheme that has recorded a distance of 3 million and 700 thousand in six months of activity (April-September) sustainable kilometers and save CO2 emissions of 720 tons.
"And the most comforting fact - explains Marco Amadori of SRM Reti and Mobiltà Srl, mind of the initiative together with Giuseppe Liguori - is that linked to the loyalty of the users. In the year of debut, 2017, there was a boom immediately linked to the news and we reached fifteen thousand. This year, the App used ten thousand subscribers, but they did it consistently: the distance covered and the emissions saved are identical to those of last year ".

Bella Mossa was developed as part of the European Empower project in which Bologna is a pilot city. "By focusing on the existing English Better Points app, we hired the platform and asked to implement it, extending it to all means of transport and making it more dynamic, with variations and additions during the reporting period", explains Marco Amadori. Not just bicycles, but also buses, trains, car sharing and car pooling, with at least three people on board: as long as the number of people able to give up their cars increases when possible. The commercial activities involved, divided between partners (sports clubs, museums, furnishing companies, hypermarkets, banks, food producers) and incentive providers (pubs, swimming pools, restaurants, cinemas) are leavened from 85 to 108.

Along with the discounts, an important element was the playful one, with the challenge "urban challenge": companies in the Bologna area challenged themselves for the title of more sustainable company, with the employees who in turn competed to those who earned more money. points for the common goal. In 2018 the company teams were 53, 30 percent more than the year of the initiative's debut. The two thousand users registered through company teams (20 percent of the total) have traveled a million and a half kilometers of sustainable kilometers, with a given double percentage.

Bella Mossa is not the first case of promoting sustainable mobility, but claims the Italian supremacy among those that embrace all means of transport and that has a high impact in terms of participants. "Often the non-use of the bicycle or public transport depends on a cultural factor: it is automatic to always take the car, for each move, until you get to use it for stretches of one or two kilometers that could be done safely on foot or in bicycle. Once you try and understand that the car has valid alternatives - concludes Marco Amadori - it becomes easier to continue on the road to sustainability ".

Ride fast, ride safe, ride with style

The event "Ride fast, ride safe, ride with style" at Palazzo Gorani, which hosts the temporary exhibition to celebrate 110 years of Taurus, in Milan, took place on Wednesday 12 December in via Brisa at 6.00 pm
Taurus, the historic Italian bicycle brand since 1908, has launched the new e-bike line with ZeHus technology, a Milan-based company, established in Milan Polytechnic, today the European leader in all-in-one power and connectivity systems for pedal assisted.
At the same time, the high visibility gilet developed by CLARA Swiss Tech was launched as an absolute preview, a multi-award-winning start-up in the world of wearable technology created in the professional university school of Italian Switzerland (SUPSI).

Italian craftsmanship blends with the technology to offer safety and increased driving comfort to two-wheelers. The partnership between Taurus, ZeHus & Clara Swiss Tech leads to the 4.0 bicycle.
Three new models of pedal assisted Taurus bikes were presented: the "Linea È", the e-bikes with the gritty accent, in the "È donna" and "È uomo" versions, and the "È Limited" model , with exclusive dovetail frame and handcrafted handlebar which incorporates the lines of the handlebar R.
The ZeHus system, with engine, battery and electronics integrated in the rear hub managed by the dedicated Bitride application, allows infinite autonomy, thanks to KERS technology (Kinetic Energy Recovery System) that allows you to recharge the battery in phases of inertia, ie downhill and pedaling counterclockwise. With the battery hidden in the hub, the new e-bikes retain the classic and elegant Taurus style.

From the collaboration between Taurus and CLARA the exclusive "CLARA for Taurus" high visibility vest line was born. The Swiss CLARA Swiss Tech start-up has created CLARA Smart Vest, a vest that increases the visibility of cyclists thanks to the integration of high-brightness directional arrows, reducing the risk of road accidents when the majority of them occurs: in conditions of poor visibility and near road intersections.
The operation is simple and practical: thanks to a wireless device placed on the handlebars of the bicycle, when the cyclist decides to turn, he can indicate his intentions by activating the arrow integrated in the vest.

A baseball cap for safe travel when you ride.
The idea is signed by Park & Diamond, a Brooklyn-based American startup that has developed a helmet that is made of a composite material that allows the helmet to be folded and rolled up and then placed in the bicycle's water bottle.

The intuition of the 226-gram model complies with the US, Canadian and European safety standards is of two former engineers of SpaceX, David Hall and Jordan Klein, and was born following the accident of the first sister who, by bike without helmet the intersection of the streets of Park and Diamond in Blacksburg was hit by a car and ended up in a coma for four months, then luckily recovered.

Hence the desire to create a portable helmet, comfortable and safe but also elegant to attract those cyclists accustomed to not using head protection. In this sense, the advantage of the material patented by Park & Diamond is the greater effectiveness in absorbing and dissipating elastic energy compared to standard helmets, which translates into less risk of head injuries.

With a huge fundraiser on Indiegogo (more than 1.2 million euros accumulated), the Foldable Bike Helmet can still be purchased at almost half the price on the same crowdfunding platform: just $ 89.

Tutti a piedi o in bici, siete d’accordo?

From now on we will move only by public transport or on foot or by bike, through the dense network of dedicated tracks.
The ecological revolution will start next year.

The protection of the environment and of air quality, therefore of health, take it very seriously in Norway.
It is no coincidence that the Norwegian capital has been nominated by the European Commission "Green Capital 2019", a recognition of its environmental policies, which Oslo wants to show that it deserves all the way.

The city's ecological revolution begins with transport and in 2019 the Norwegian capital will ban its center for cars. You can move to the city only on foot or by bike, or by public transport. Public means that will be strictly ecological. The news will be introduced just next year.

The goal is to cut pollutant emissions by 36% in 2020, compared to 1990 levels, and even by 95% by 2030. A European capital free from air pollution.
It is not enough, of course, to prohibit entry into the center of cars. Public transport must be non-polluting, including taxis.
An ecological path that the city has undertaken for some time. Already in 2016, in Oslo there was the overtaking of the use of public transport compared to that with private vehicles and over 60% of new electric, hybrid or hydrogen cars, thanks above all to the substantial incentives provided. Those who buy an electric or hybrid car, in fact, do not pay VAT or road tax, have free parking and 1,300 charging points.
However, from the center of Oslo, electric cars will also be excluded. As the mayor Marianne Borgen, who has governed the city since 2015, has announced. To this end, the historic center of Oslo has been enlarged, with the promise of continuing to develop the pedestrian areas. A large living room surrounded by the beauty of the northern city to be crossed in complete safety and tranquility.
The administration aims to increase up to 35% foot travel in the city and to triple the percentage of those cycling at 18% by 2020. All on foot or by bike, do you agree?
Among other European countries that will undertake revolutionary policies in the field of transport, always for the purposes of environmental protection, there is Luxembourg, which for 2019 has announced to put its public transport at the disposal of everyone for free. It will be the first country in the world.
Although also Estonia has announced in recent months a similar provision, although limited to its residents.
In Italy, on the other hand, policies to promote public transport and reduce the use of the private one have introduced the Emilia Romagna Region with the concession of the free bus to those who have a train pass.
