Luce Radar Garmin Varia

Safety first of all when you go on two wheels. So here's Garmin's Varia RTL515 rearview radar, which provides visual and audible warnings for vehicles approaching from behind up to 140 meters away. It works associated with a Garmin Edge cycle computer, a Garmin wearable or even with a compatible smartphone, and warns motorists of its presence on the road already from 1.5 km away thanks to over 65 lumens of power in flashing mode.

Varia RTL515 mounts on the seat tube of any type of road bike and has an autonomy of up to 16 hours. If used with a compatible smartphone, it can be used with the Garmin Varia app, or with your own navigation apps, such as Ride with GPS, so as to display the rear-view radar warnings over the maps.

Cosa indossare in bici

Nowadays there are many cycling enthusiasts: a sport that has conquered more and more Italians in recent years and that allows you to keep fit by practicing outdoor activities. Riding a bike is for many a relief valve, for others a real sporting passion but what is certain is that to do it in the right way it is important to dress appropriately.

Technical shorts are definitely a must have for anyone who wants to ride a bike and be comfortable. Their peculiarity lies in the fact that they are adherent and therefore make the movement of the legs much easier, but not only. The cycling shorts differ from all the others also for the presence of the pad: an indispensable detail to avoid discomfort or pain in the lower back while pedaling. The good quality models are then made of technical fabric, able to promote the breathability of the skin and dry quickly. As an alternative to classic shorts, you can opt for overalls.

The cycling jersey is essential not only because it is made of technical fabric and therefore allows you to regulate your body temperature while pedaling but also because of its characteristics. In fact, in most cases, cycling jerseys are equipped with a rear pocket that allows you to carry some objects with you without disturbing while pedaling.

The windproof jacket is also essential, especially if you intend to ride a bike during the mid-seasons or on particularly windy days. It allows you to get shelter and avoid some ailments, so it is always advisable to take it with you. The peculiarity of the windproof cycling jackets lies in the fact that they are very light therefore they take up very little space and are comfortable to wear.

As far as accessories are concerned, the right cycling shoes are essential, which must be chosen with great attention, based on the type of bicycle you usually ride. There is a big difference between MTB shoes and racing bike shoes for example, so never underestimate this aspect.

Definitely useful are the cycling shoe covers that allow you to protect your shoes in case of rain. In fact, their peculiarity lies in the waterproof material and in the presence of special holes to facilitate the attachment of cycling shoes to the pedals.

The helmet is fundamental: a real must have to practice this sport in total safety and not risk getting hurt. Unfortunately, falls are quite frequent on a bicycle and only thanks to the helmet is it possible to protect the head and avoid even very serious consequences.

Building a lightweight bike can be fun but also very expensive. However, there are 'gram nerds' out there whose sole purpose is to build the lightest vehicle possible. The lightest road bike ever built is the work of mechanic Gunter Mai. This same bike was then re-built by Fairewheel Bikes, a bike shop in Tucson, Arizona, to be even lighter.

This 'pedal rocket' was originally built in 2008 and weighed just over 3kg at the time. Over time Gunter managed to lower his weight down to 2.8kg, but then he took everything apart and sold the parts to other weight fanatics in 2010. Thankfully most of the parts of the bike, especially the frame that was custom made, they were sold to someone who worked at Fairwheel Bikes, a shop that has a great reputation in the world of bicycle sick people, famous for building custom bikes and conceiving special projects.
Before Gunter's bike, Fairwheel had set the record for the lightest bike in the world with the M2Racer.

After nearly a year of researching the missing accessories and building new parts, starting with Gunter's original Spin frame the weight came to 2.7kg. Finished with minimalist black decals, the aim was to produce a bike that could be used almost exclusively for climbs.

The carbon frame, Gunter's original conception, was produced by Spin, a German company and was built by Marc Siebert, to tip the balance at an incredible 643.9g. Like the frame, the fork was also custom built, handcrafted by the German company THM weighing 185.9g.

The handlebar, the stem, the brake levers with their housing and the handlebar tape weigh 264.6g. The carbon handlebar was made by Schmolke, the stem is from NoRa, while the brake levers were built on the basis of Campagnolo Ergo controls. Schmolke also supplied the seat post, which is paired with a Tune Speedneedle saddle. The shift levers are classic but have been made of carbon fiber by BTP. In short, every detail has been treated with great class.

Lew wheels originally weighed 709.6g, Jason and his team replaced them with their own custom assembly using lightweight Ax rims, a prototyped hub from Dash, Pillar's titanium spokes and Tufo's specially made tubulars - the total weight of the two wheels became 583g. Fairwheel added AX Lightness Orion brakes with BTP race shoes, weighing 103.5g, while Gunter's previous brakes weighed 71.6g.

Fairwheel has changed the cranks, compared to those initially conceived by Gunter, the THM Clavicula, with a prototype of Myth from the Netherlands. The weight of the prototype is 281.4g compared to the 298g of the THM crankset. Other changes in the drivetrain were deemed necessary, such as the ceramic bottom bracket, with carbon fiber bearings made by Fiber-Lyte. The chain was changed to a titanium chain made in Taiwan by the YBN company. The pedals were changed to a pair made to measure by Aerolite, similar to the ones Gunter had fitted to his bike, but lighter. Fairwheel added the SRAM Red rear derailleur to the bike. The latter is heavier than the Huret / BTP derailleur that Gunter had chosen, while the front derailleur is a Campagnolo Record.

Clorofilla

Lorenzo Buratti is a great bike enthusiast and is the head of this company based in Cesena, which has been producing mechanical components for many Italian industries since 1946. A few years ago he designed an assistance column for cyclists. Chlorophyll is a maintenance base for all types of bikes and recharges for electric bikes.

To its flagship product, made entirely of metal, it has added a new wooden station equipped with all the essential tools for solving the most common mechanical failures and a tested high-resistance foot pump. The new "Savana" column has a line inspired by nature and the neutral color of wood and metal is designed to withstand the elements for a long time, making it perfect for open spaces, even far from human presence, on paths, cycle paths and parks, where fits perfectly with the natural environment.

In combination with the column, a recharging bench was produced, «Seduta Savana», designed to rest and recharge your e-bike in complete safety. Each seat allows the simultaneous parking and charging of two electric bikes and offers enough space for two people to sit comfortably.

Each charging socket is housed inside a compartment designed to house the battery charger, which can be closed with its own safety lock together with the bike during charging, so as to prevent theft or damage.

All products are totally designed, produced and assembled in Italy.

Scarpa Tailwhip Eco Evo

The Treviso-based company Northwave exhibited its 2023 collection of cycling shoes and clothing. In addition to purely technical products dedicated to road and MTB, Northwave has studied versatile garments that can be used with your MTB or gravel but that once off the bike are comfortable and practical. Among the novelties, the Tailwhip Eco Evo, a highly performing, cruelty-free and bio-based MTB shoe made in collaboration with ACBC, the first Italian B Corp in the footwear sector and Circular Science Company (a company whose business model is based on the circular economy production).

Northwave's ten-year Italian excellence in the production of high-performance bike shoes is therefore combined with ACBC's experience in the field of sustainability, with the motto of "Ride Greener", a slogan that briefly but exhaustively summarizes the goal of the joint project. On the one hand, the new Tailwhip Eco Evo remains faithful to its original and iconic version, which has long been featured in the Northwave catalog, but is now dressed in green, pre- and post-consumer recycled materials.

Upper and lining, in fact, are made of RePet fabric derived from the recycling of plastic bottles, with further reinforced toe and heel to ensure maximum protection in the saddle. The insole features a top layer in RePet, while the insole partially employs ReFoam technology (recycled polyurethane foam). Finally, the laces are always in RePet, with natural undyed colors.

The flat sole signed by Michelin is made with Hybrid technology, which reuses production rubber scraps of the same soles, guaranteeing maximum grip on the pedals.

The story of all the great cycling, starting with the fascinating adventures of the pioneers of the late nineteenth century. The birth of the Tour de France and the Giro d'Italia, of many spectacular classics, the seasons of the first popular heroes of this endless story. The red devil Gerbi sung by Paolo Conte. The Aosta Valley chimney sweep Maurice Garin who becomes French and wins the first Tour of France. Constant Girardengo call him the Champion.
The glory and the tragedy of Bottecchia. Binda and Guerra, a great rivalry, up to the epic of the giants of the road, Bartali and Coppi, who with their triumphs help the country to be reborn after the atrocities and dramas, the atrocious mourning of the Second World War. And then Gimondi and Merckx, a great duel, but also many Italian champions at the stage in the 1950s and 1960s. The fiery challenges between Moser and Saronni, then Bugno and Chiappucci, the myth and tragedy of Marco Pantani. The Triumphs and Fraud of Lance Armstrong. The other disheartening doping events, including the technological one, a real scam. But also the exciting Olympic and world victories of Paolo Bettini.
So many backstories, as many secrets up to Nibali's victories in the Giro, Tour and Vuelta, Aru in the tricolor jersey and a couple of days in the yellow jersey at the Tour de France, Viviani's shining Olympic gold at the Rio Games, the tragedy absurd by Michele Scarponi.
The recent and spectacular successes of Bernal and Pogacar in the Tour de France, the surprise hit by Bettiol in the Tour of Flanders and above all the triumphs on the track and on the road, time trial and in line, in rainbow and pink jersey, of our extraordinary talent Filippo Ganna.

1 Giro d’Italia 2023

The 106th Giro d'Italia returns from our country with an evocative choice: the 3,448.6 km of the 2023 edition will start on Saturday 6 May from a small village on the Abruzzo coast (Fossacesia Marina, blue flag for the quality of its waters ) and will end in the heart of Rome with an online test. For Abruzzo this is the second Great Start after that of 2001, for Rome the 49th stage finish and the fifth final finish line of the Giro.

It is difficult to summarize in short the characteristics of such a long and complex race. After the binge of the South of the last editions, it will be a Giro that will not go down the Peninsula beyond Salerno (but with a magnificent Naples-Naples, fresh from the great success of 2022), which will offer a lot of Adriatic and a pinch of Tyrrhenian, which will explore everything the alpine arc from west to east with many unprecedented climbs (some very hard), which will return to the Cime di Lavaredo, one of the most beautiful climbs in the world, and will close the competitive part before the Capitoline walkway with a fascinating and terrible Friulian time trial. There is also a fleeting but not at all trivial passage in Switzerland with the uphill finish in Crans Montana. The stage includes the Cima Coppi of this Giro, the fascinating Gran San Bernardo pass that climbs to 2,469 meters.

The logbook talks about eight stages for sprinters out of the 21 total, three time trials for a total of 70.6 km, seven mountain fractions that all have uphill milestones including the final time trial of Lussari and four fractions. dedicated to partial goal hunters. Total: 51,300 meters in altitude. At first impression, it will be a challenging but not extreme Giro that winks at the big names in world cycling who can envision a double win with the Tour.

The first key stages will present the account very early: the fourth day we arrive at Lake Laceno, the seventh on the Gran Sasso. The walls of Fossombrone will be the starter for the second time trial, that of Cesena. The first stage arrives on the 13th day, from Borgofranco di Ivrea we go towards Crans Montana. Behind the apparently harmless Seregno-Bergamo there are 3,600 meters of altitude and after a rest the legendary Monte Bondone returns, which can be reached after over 5000 meters.

The dreaded "hat-trick" is that of stages 18, 19 and 20, scheduled from 25 to 27 May. It starts with the Oderzo-Val di Zoldo, continues with the most beautiful of the Dolomite stages, from Longarone to the Tre Cime di Lavaredo, crossing Campolongo, Giau and Tre Croci for 5,400 meters in altitude: no great tour can boast such landscapes. And then there is Mount Lussari, yet another very hard Friulian pearl, which will be climbed against the clock: 1,050 meters in altitude in much less than 10 km with peaks of 23-25% in the final ramps. On the evening of May 27 or the morning of Sunday 28 the caravan will fly to Rome for the final catwalk.

The passion for cycling is a timeless love for Italians that moves 10.7 million fans and over 4 million practitioners; a sentiment that also translates into work ferment considering that the annual revenues of bicycle and component manufacturers generate a volume of almost 1.5 billion euros.

In the two-year period 2022/2023 there was an average annual growth of 7.3%, while at the European level the incidence on the market stands at 21% of the overall bicycle market of the Old Continent.

These are some of the data that emerge from the research “Cycling, Italy leader in the production and enhancement of Grand Classic sports races.

At the production level, the Italian tradition is as ancient as it is branched out.

About 610 companies operate in the Peninsula, including direct manufacturers of bicycles and components, which with their revenues represent 29% 1 of the total turnover of vehicle manufacturers, estimated at 5.2 billion euros. Numbers that take us to the top of Europe, firmly in first place in terms of bicycle production, followed by Germany and Portugal which respectively hold 15% and 12% of market shares.

But the tricolor leadership does not lay its foundations only on an ancient tradition: it is in fact the innovative component that gives new vigor with the production of e-Bikes up by 25% in 2021 which led to an impact of 11% on the total. In addition, 25% of producers have increased investments, confirming the high rate of innovation in the sector.

With 10.7 million enthusiasts, equal to 21% of the national adult population, and 4 million practitioners, both amateurs and professionals, cycling is confirmed as a truly transversal passion. A set of factors that also has positive effects on membership of the Cycling Federation which recorded an increase of 13% in 2021, reaching over 70 thousand members and reserving a place among the three major sports Federations in a positive trend in terms of members at the turn of the last three years.

Facing the crossroads, the cyclist was uncertain whether to continue the race uphill, and his tired and mediocre career as a professional racer, or to take that downhill road of smooth and clear earth. He finally swerved, stopped pedaling, and let the bike ride down a drop-off without a finish line. He stopped in the yard of a remote farmhouse.

A young woman approached him. Thus begins the new life of the old cyclist Zugalà who discovered he had the light in his worn legs: a story of electrifying passions, of erotic abandonments, of competitive and at the same time speculative challenges, of a destiny only apparently marked by defeat.

Re-proposed in a new version twenty years after its first publication, "Il ciclista Illuminato" is a philosophical fable about the energy that knows how to arouse and produce desire.

Moro 07

Yamaha has been among the leading names in the e-bike revolution for many years, especially when it comes to high performance and eMTB, the electric version of mountain bikes. After having tickled the interest of enthusiasts with prototypes and various design studies, the Japanese house is ready to enter the market with its only perhaps, to produce an entire eMTB.

Thus was born the Moro 07, an all-mountain with 150mm of travel. Yamaha describes the development of the bike and frame as holistic - that is, in a coordinated way to ensure that the various components work in unison, to offer better performance. The key is the Dual Twin frame, which is based on Yamaha's world champion bikes, where the top tube splits in two and hides the shock mount.

The suspension is entrusted to RockShox, with the Lyric Select RC fork with 160 mm of travel, and the Super Deluxe Select + RT shock, Deboair and 150 mm of travel. The transmission instead is all Shimano brand, with a mix of Shimano SL / RD and Deore XT M8100, 12-speed and Hyperglide + cassette. The brakes are Magura MT5 4-piston, with 203mm discs. Prices are still unknown at the moment, but the bikes are expected to hit retailers by the end of the year.

From the city of steel comes an idea for hydrogen. It is the one brought to the Maker Faire in Rome by the students of the "Pacinotti" institute in Taranto, who, thanks to the collaboration of the Municipality and Comes, showed at the innovation review an electric bike model powered by the cleanest of fuels (thanks to the combination with the oxygen of the atmosphere, the result of the production of energy is pure water, in fact).

This is a project already shown on the occasion of the "European Mobility Week 2022" and which reaffirms the prospects of Taranto as one of the national poles in the framework of the initiatives supported by the NRP. In fact, in Puglia, Edison and Snam aim to create a Green Hydrogen Valley, with production, storage and use of fuel. Together with Brindisi and Cerignola, the Apulian capital will host one of the three plants planned for the production of 220 megawatt green hydrogen for the fuel obtained for industrial use and possibly for mobility. Renewable electricity will be provided by 380 MW solar photovoltaic systems; the plants, once fully operational, will produce 300 million cubic meters of hydrogen per year.

A system at the dawn of the development of hydrogen (due to the size and complexity of the processes) but which testifies to attention also at the level of local training institutes and the desire to investigate the possibilities of this fuel.

Paris is the best example of how a metropolis can be made cycling.
There are no cities unsuitable for bikes but there are cities where cycling has been worked on and cities that have been abandoned to cars.

There are many initiatives that have been implemented: roads reserved for schools, subscriptions at reduced prices for bike sharing with the first half hour of free use, monthly subscription to the service of 3.10 euros, penalization of car traffic with speed limitations and increased parking costs.

The French capital is certainly not a provincial town, where traffic is low and a few cycle paths are enough. Paris is a European capital, with millions of inhabitants, hundreds of thousands of tourists, a vast hinterland that gravitates to the center.

Traffic is intense, sometimes chaotic. Yet, Paris today is full of bicycles, cycle paths, pedestrian areas where people stroll, socialize and consume.

In every corner of the Ville Lumière it is possible to take advantage of bike sharing.
