Bella Mossa!!!

We translate an article from the magazine La Repubblica from 13.12.2019

An ice cream, a movie ticket, an entrance to the pool: to get them just accumulate points. Which? Those of Bella Mossa, the initiative that for the second year in a row has successfully promoted sustainable mobility (whether it be on foot, by bike, bus, train or car sharing and car pooling) in the city of Bologna. Bella Mossa, in fact, has transformed the movements in points and in a green challenge between friends and colleagues: an incentive scheme that has recorded a distance of 3 million and 700 thousand in six months of activity (April-September) sustainable kilometers and save CO2 emissions of 720 tons.
"And the most comforting fact - explains Marco Amadori of SRM Reti and Mobiltà Srl, mind of the initiative together with Giuseppe Liguori - is that linked to the loyalty of the users. In the year of debut, 2017, there was a boom immediately linked to the news and we reached fifteen thousand. This year, the App used ten thousand subscribers, but they did it consistently: the distance covered and the emissions saved are identical to those of last year ".

Bella Mossa was developed as part of the European Empower project in which Bologna is a pilot city. "By focusing on the existing English Better Points app, we hired the platform and asked to implement it, extending it to all means of transport and making it more dynamic, with variations and additions during the reporting period", explains Marco Amadori. Not just bicycles, but also buses, trains, car sharing and car pooling, with at least three people on board: as long as the number of people able to give up their cars increases when possible. The commercial activities involved, divided between partners (sports clubs, museums, furnishing companies, hypermarkets, banks, food producers) and incentive providers (pubs, swimming pools, restaurants, cinemas) are leavened from 85 to 108.

Along with the discounts, an important element was the playful one, with the challenge "urban challenge": companies in the Bologna area challenged themselves for the title of more sustainable company, with the employees who in turn competed to those who earned more money. points for the common goal. In 2018 the company teams were 53, 30 percent more than the year of the initiative's debut. The two thousand users registered through company teams (20 percent of the total) have traveled a million and a half kilometers of sustainable kilometers, with a given double percentage.

Bella Mossa is not the first case of promoting sustainable mobility, but claims the Italian supremacy among those that embrace all means of transport and that has a high impact in terms of participants. "Often the non-use of the bicycle or public transport depends on a cultural factor: it is automatic to always take the car, for each move, until you get to use it for stretches of one or two kilometers that could be done safely on foot or in bicycle. Once you try and understand that the car has valid alternatives - concludes Marco Amadori - it becomes easier to continue on the road to sustainability ".
