During the Sport Festival, in the area of Trentino Sport Tech Arena, took place the meeting 'E-bike, the silent revolution', which saw talks on the stage, together with the journalist of the Gazzetta dello Sport Antonino Morici, four names important:

Marco Aurelio Fontana, Italian mountain bike champion
Fabrizio Scalzotto, CEO of Bianchi
Annamaria de Paola, head of the Bikeconomy Observatory
Livio Suppo, one of the best sports managers of MotoGP who has created a mountain e-bike brand.

There has been talk of the electric bicycle revolution, which is silently becoming increasingly important.

The proof is, for example, the debut of the Giro E, a special competition that took place in 18 stages last May, on the sidelines of the Giro d'Italia. As pointed out by Scalzotto, this revolution started from the Netherlands, and then spread to other countries: "the beautiful thing about the electric bike is that it goes to everyday life, but also to the sports world. On the mountain bike the electric motor allows you to make wonderful excursions. We have recently approached the road sector, a fascinating challenge for the cyclist by definition 'road' who is not used to this type of innovation ».

Scalzotto, referring to Bianchi but also to many other companies and startups, underlined that thanks to e-bike "the bicycle is back to being made in Italy, with production and Italian labor" adding that "as manufacturers we need companies with innovative ideas, it's a golden moment for cycling and so it's worth investing ».

To underline the growth of the Bike economy in our country there is also Annamaria de Paola, who conceived and organized the first two editions of the first International Forum on Bike Economy: "Bike economy means many things, starting with cycling. Italy rides by bicycle both because it is a sport loved by citizens, and because we have quality productions, with a deep-rooted tradition and a strong innovation ". Marco Aurelio Fontana, looking at electric bicycles from the point of view of the sportsman, stressed that the technology of e-bikes makes it possible to have at the same time a beautiful but highly performing medium. Livio Suppo, which launched a mountain bike brand in 2011, finally underlined how these means are able to embrace an extremely wide range of users, ranging from people of a certain age to young people who are looking for adrenaline experiences.

Ed Lancaster, Senior Policy Officer at ECF, also welcomed Parliament's support: "We are aware that there are still many obstacles to overcome, but this is undoubtedly an important step towards increasing multimodal levels in Europe. It is important to have a strong position on bicycle transport from the European Parliament leading to discussions on this subject with the Council ".

The MEP who led the preparation of the position of the TRAN committee, Vice-President Bogusław Liberadski (S & D), commented: "I am very pleased with the result of today's vote, especially for European citizens who love to live multimodally, because they will be soon able to get on board any European Union train with their bicycles. " Following the plenary session, the European Parliament will launch discussions with the Council of the European Union (the Member States) to agree on the final wording of the regulation.
