Alpha Neo

The world's first hydrogen electric bicycle arrives from the French Basque country. Designed and built by Pragma Mobility of Biarritz, Alpha Neo has absolute record numbers. Starting with a range of no less than 150 km, with a "fill up" of 67 grams of hydrogen which can be done in just two minutes.

Pierre Forté, the founder of Pragma Industries in 2004 and of Pragma Mobility in 2020 is convinced that the future does not lie in lithium but in green hydrogen fuel cells and has been dedicating himself to the development of this technology for almost twenty years. With the boom that the e-bike is having all over the world in recent years, he has decided to found his second company to study an alternative that he claims is more ecological in the calculation of the entire life cycle as well as more comfortable. avoiding the long times of traditional recharging.

Thus, after two years of experimentation and a first prototype, Pragma Mobility has just presented Alpha Neo, already in pre-order at 5,690 euros and to be delivered within the first half of next year. Alpha Neo, built entirely in France, is not exactly a feather light with its weight of 30 kg, also due to its sturdy reinforced aluminum frame which according to the manufacturer guarantees a life of at least 15 years of intense use.

The bicycle has a low step to better adapt to people from 160 to 190 centimeters in height, a 67-gram hydrogen tank at 300 bar of pressure that feeds the 480W fuel cells, a removable energy accumulator and super capacitors .

Pushing this first hydrogen-powered bike up to a permitted speed of 25 km/h is a 250 W hub motor in the rear wheel, with a peak of 350 W and five levels of pedal assistance. Other features include 27.5-inch wheels with 2-inch reinforced tyres, hydraulic disc brakes, LED lights with twilight sensor and permanent connection with the manufacturer and hydrogen refueling stations which will then be the real limit of the model.

Yes, because if the project seems to promise a lot, the real problem, at least in this phase, will be that of refueling since hydrogen stations are scarce. Therefore, for the moment, Alpha Neo customers can only come from the areas where these distributors are located and for this reason the first production is expected to be just 1,000 units. But Forté, an aerospace engineer who abandoned a brilliant career in the giant Dassault Aviation to stake everything on this element, is convinced that in a few years hydrogen and in particular the green one, a 100% sustainable fuel, will develop rapidly and with it the market for his innovative vehicle which, in addition to purchasing, will soon also be available for leasing at 79 euros a month.
