An extraordinary and unusual story in which the gaze of the famous photographers of the Magnum Photos agency explores cycling, one of the most popular and loved sports of all time. A story in images that does not limit itself to bearing witness to the exploits of the champions and the great international events, the Tour de France first and foremost, but also the daily and surprising humanity of all those who are in some way involved.

Unlike traditional sports photography, the images collected here - selected from the enormous archive of the famous American agency, founded in New York in 1947 - tell the story of cycling through the sensitivity and irony of these authors, in a journey in stages that starts from Robert Capa's shots it reaches the present day, through the lens of Alex Majoli.
A story that investigates the human dimension of one of the sports most followed by the general public, which goes beyond sporting exploits and reveals the alchemy of cycling, the only sport, as Gianni Mura repeated, where "those who flee are not cowards".

Bici & Rock 'n roll

Cycling inspired one of the funniest rock songs of all time, Bicycle Race by Queen, one of the pieces that defines the talent and extravagant inspiration of Freddie Mercury: one day in 1978 he was sitting at the bar tables of a hotel in Montreaux. a break from the recording sessions of the Jazz album at Montain Studios, saw the cyclists pass by engaged in the eighteenth stage of the Tour de France which crosses Switzerland and taken by enthusiasm he immediately writes his hymn to cycling in a rock key, also inserting the sound of dozens of bicycle bells before Brian May's guitar solo.

But rock is also a great source of inspiration for cycling, as demonstrated by a fun ranking of the songs most listened to by cyclists in the world made by the specialized website eBikes.org. In a world of playlists, there is also one created by interviewing over a thousand cyclists (professional and amateur) and asking what they like to listen to to energize themselves during training and races.

Twenty-five songs in which rock dominates: first position is Thunderstruck by AC/DC, followed by Highway to Hell and Fortunate Son by Creedence Clearwater Revival and again by AC/DC with Back in Black. In fifth place is Sweet Child O'Mine by Guns N' Roses, who occupy two other positions, number 10 with Welcome to the Jungle and number 14 with Paradise City. AC/DC also returns to number 7 with You Shook Me All Night Long and other tracks include Lynryd Skynyrd's Sweet Home Alabama (also at number 21 with Free Bird), Linkin Park's In the End, Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana, Crazy Train by Ozzy Osbourne and Seven Nation Army by the White Stripes. In the general ranking of the artists most listened to by cyclists (who also love rap and pop, from Drake to Kandrick Lamar to Eminem to The Weeknd), AC/DC are in fifth place, Metallica at number 16, Linkin Park in position number 20. Queen, despite the rock anthem to cycling Bicycle Race, closed the race in twenty-fifth place.

I due percorsi:

VERDESCA TOUR
48Km 700d+

The Squali Gravel is not simply a cycle tour through the Conca Valley, but a real journey of emotions and pure relaxation in close contact with the nature of a still unexplored territory, pedaling along dirt roads in the Romagna hinterland.

There are two routes, with evocative names, inspired by two species of sharks in honor of the Cattolica Aquarium, the famous Shark Arena, a point of reference for the 3 days of the Granfondo Squali:

- The VERDESCA TOUR (short route) of 48km with 770 meters of altitude difference in "mode" ACCOMPANIED with expert guides from the Valley.

- The TORO TOUR (long route) of 100km with 1900 meters of altitude difference in GPX TRACK "mode" provided by the organization the day before the event.

The two routes:

VERDESCA TOUR
48Km 700d+

Through the well-kept countryside of San Clemente and Coriano there are countless small climbs to reach the Rio Melo valley. The ascent towards the Croce ridge will be interspersed with refreshment at the "Capannino" farm and then descend along the course of the Conca river with its beautiful and easy dirt road to the sea. From here the vision of the sea will never abandon us and we will return towards the coast along the picturesque country roads of the hamlets of the Misano Adriatico area. An overall quiet ride but full of steep climbs within the agricultural landscape of this part of Romagna.

TORO TOUR
100Km 1900m d+

Small ridges follow one another from the sea, between the countryside of San Clemente and Coriano, all to be conquered with grim climbs until reaching the hidden Marano Valley with its winding paths immersed in the woods, stony fords and vast views of Mount Titano. A short stretch in the "Sammarinese" territory up to the foot of the very tough "Albereto" climb (2.3km average gradient 10% with peaks of up to 30%). Then the long slight slope with a view of the Apennines until reaching the well-deserved and succulent refreshment point of Montegrimano. The following climbs of Monte Altavellio and Piandicastello among agricultural landscapes will indicate the direction for the return towards the sea through hills and small valleys all to be conquered with difficulty. The climbs will end with a view of the Montefiore castle, the last ford on the Conca river and the long dirt road to the Adriatic Sea await you.
