From Friday 29th to Sunday 31st October, the “Slow Cyclist Festival” returns to Ferrara, the fifth edition of the festival of “the beautiful people who pedal”, the festival for those who love to pedal without haste, enjoying the views, encounters, stories and beauties of the area.

On the program: the slowest ride in the world "5 km in 5 hours", the Hour Record "upside down", the Granfondo del Merendone, the Gran Galà del Ciclista Lento, the Pedal Cinema and the round table "Two chat on two wheels ".

There are those who choose bicycles for the pleasure of pedaling and moving smoothly, without chasing performance, watts and odometers. Those who enjoy two wheels without the anxiety of arriving first, those who experience the pleasure of the journey rather than the finish line, appreciating landscapes and curiosities encountered along the way ... this is the philosophy, together with the motto "Blessed are the last who know life enjoy ”which for five years has characterized the Ferrara event dedicated to cycling-slow, to celebrate those who use the roads and cycle paths to pedal slowly, without talent for sport, without times to be respected or records to be established.

But what will happen this year from 29 to 31 October, in the three days dedicated to two-wheeled lenses?
So says Guido Foddis, creator and patron of the event: "For the Slow Cyclist Festival it is not a return, we were among the few to be able to plan the 2020 edition as well, zigzagging among the many branches that the pandemic continues to leave on our path.
However, it is a return to “almost normality”, that is to say the pleasure of being together with bicycle champions and cyclists of all reams.
In our Festival the real protagonists are the cyclists excluded from long distances, from competitions, from competitive training.
We already have a 95-year-old member who we will pamper like a princess, because she best represents our mission: to put everyone on a pedal vehicle.
Around her, Olympic and Paralympic champions, protagonists of civil society, artists, journalists and writers who flocked from all parts of Italy to celebrate the capital of the Republic of Bicycles, or Ferrara. The novelty of this edition will be the opening to independent cinema, obviously linked to two wheels. We will screen unpublished works, short films and documentaries produced in this difficult pandemic year, to give new meanings to the bicycle.
We will also give space to the requests of young people, committed to achieving the cultural change that the climate crisis imposes.
Also from this point of view, the bicycle is one of the solutions judged to be the best from every point of view. We will put Sara Segantin, writer, mountaineer and activist of Fridays for Future, representatives of the Ministry of Ecological Transition (even if we preferred to call it "Ministry of the Environment") and Ispra around a table laden with Tender cake. Besides them, writers and musicians, too often regarded only as entertainers and not as thinkers. An aspect that really matters to us is the promotion of concrete actions of solidarity that start from a simple gesture: pedaling. In fact, Alessandra Cappellotto will come to visit us, not only was she the first Italian to wear the World Champion jersey. But that today you represent the union of professional cyclists and that, in this area, you worked night and day to evacuate nine national team athletes from Afghanistan otherwise destined for a horrible future. Alessandra will enrich us by telling us about the "better world" that she tries to create riding her bicycle.
Slow Cycling is not just a form of pride for those who have nothing to win.
It is medicine
which is useful for all those who are too busy running to realize they are standing still ”.
