La città di Amsterdam ha inaugurato due infrastrutture particolari riguardanti il mezzo olandese a due ruote per eccellenza. Di questi progetti quello che ha fatto sicuramente più scalpore è il parcheggio per bici sott’acqua, situato comodamente nei pressi della Stazione Centrale.
In entrambi i casi si tratta di opere architettoniche complesse ed elaborate che intendono rispondere all’altissimo numero di biciclette in circolazione.
Vi sono per l’appunto quasi un milione di bici a fronte dei circa 800mila abitanti. Non a caso, infatti, Amsterdam appare come la città di riferimento in fatto di innovazione e mobilità sostenibile.
Entrambi i progetti dei parcheggi per bici sono stati avviati nel 2018, partendo da un disegno formulato già nel 2015. Ma di fatto, le due installazioni presentano alcune differenze evidenti.
In primo luogo, il parcheggio sotterraneo può contenere fino a 7mila biciclette e la sua realizzazione è costata 25 milioni di euro. D’altra parte, quello subacqueo si sviluppa a nove metri di profondità ed ha una capienza di 4mila posti. Il tutto per un ammontare di 60 milioni di euro.
Quest’ultimo, in particolare, è il risultato di un intenso lavoro che coniuga insieme creatività e funzionalità.
Nello specifico, il parcheggio subacqueo dello Staionsplein è il frutto della collaborazione tra il Museo di Amsterdam e alcuni progettisti dello studio wUrck.
L’idea originale era quella di ricreare l’aspetto di un’ostrica: l’esterno grezzo e naturale, mentre l’interno liscio e luminoso. Tali giochi di luce traspaiono dagli oculi da cui è possibile osservare il mare.
Ma di fatto, oltre al design artistico, il parcheggio per bici sott’acqua è molto pratico e comodo, soprattutto per gli spostamenti. Per la precisione, la sosta è gratuita per le prime 24 ore, per poi divenire di 1,35 euro per la giornata successiva. Inoltre, la presenza di una ciclofficina per le riparazioni è un servizio quanto mai utile a disposizione dei ciclisti.

Firstly, the underground car park can contain up to 7 thousand bicycles and its construction cost 25 million euros. On the other hand, the underwater one is nine meters deep and has a capacity of 4 thousand seats. All for an amount of 60 million euros.
The latter, in particular, is the result of intense work that combines creativity and functionality.
Specifically, the Staionsplein underwater car park is the result of collaboration between the Amsterdam Museum and some designers from the wUrck studio.
The original idea was to recreate the appearance of an oyster: the exterior raw and natural, while the interior smooth and bright. These plays of light shine through from the oculi from which it is possible to observe the sea.
But in fact, in addition to the artistic design, underwater bike parking is very practical and convenient, especially for travel. To be precise, parking is free for the first 24 hours, and then becomes 1.35 euros for the following day. Furthermore, the presence of a cycle workshop for repairs is a very useful service available to cyclists.
