Nel caso di foratura, dopo aver smontato la ruota dal telaio, sgonfiare completamente la gomma, quindi si possono usare le mani per scalzare il bordo della gomma dal cerchio, anche aiutandosi con una leva. Completata l’operazione si sfila la camera d’aria, partendo dalla valvola.

A questo punto, prima di procedere con le leve, pinzare con le dita il copertone e l’annessa camera d’aria in modo che i due bordi della gomma si pongano il più possibile all’interno del cerchione dove la circonferenza del medesimo è minore.
Fatto ciò si dovrebbe riuscire a calzare l’ultima parte della gomma con le mani, altrimenti aiutarsi con le leve, facendo attenzione a non pizzicare la camera d’aria.
Utilizziamo la pompa con molta pazienza, oppure, per accelerare, la bomboletta di aria compressa. Mano a mano che la gomma si gonfierà e andrà in pressione, produrrà degli schiocchi decisi, aderendo al cerchio: tutto normale.
Se invece è il momento di sostituire un copertone per usura o danneggiamento, la procedura è la medesima sopra descritta. Nel caso in cui il copertone nuovo sia particolarmente rigido e poco propenso a distendersi si può montarlo sul cerchio, senza inserire la camera d’aria, e lasciarlo una notte montato per permettergli di conformarsi alla ruota.
