Ciclopolitana

Six cycle paths in Segrate become as many lines of a Ciclop Metropolitana - marked by stops, colors and signs - aimed at improving the connections between the main districts of the city in the Milanese area for those traveling on two wheels. Born paraphrasing the concept of the subway, the idea took shape in two months of work: "While waiting for the extension of the M4 line that will reach Segrate, we thought of creating a sort of superficial subway - explains Paolo Micheli, mayor of Segrate. - But instead of rails there are cycle paths or short stretches on roads in Zone 30 and instead of trains there are bicycles ".

Like all subways in the world, each line follows different routes with lots of stops that intersect with each other and each has been assigned a specific color: "There is the green line that connects the Europa, Centroparco, Alhambra parks; the purple one that goes from the San Raffaele-Redecesio hospital to Lavanderie, passing through Milan 2, and the blue one that connects San Felice-Linate through Tregarezzo, Novegro and the Idroscalo - says the mayor - Or a more practical example: those who live in the Old quarter Olghia di Rovagnasco and you must take a Passante train at the station, just pedal along the yellow line towards the center ".

The routes have been designed to reach services and nerve centers of the Segrate neighborhoods in a safe, economic and sustainable way: "The already existing tracks are ideal for the transit of two wheels in both driving directions, the bicycle does not involve any expenses , if not the initial and maintenance one, and what is most comforting for the environment are the zero emissions of the vehicle - adds Micheli - Each route, then, is equipped with horizontal and vertical signs, even if in the completion phase in some strokes, which guarantees precise and fast movements ".

The Ciclopolitana also wants to be a work of raising awareness of the use of two wheels, but also a way to promote the territory: "With the collaboration of the Segratesi, it is possible to think of adding other lines and providing visitors, workers and students with a physical map of all connections - explains the mayor - The aim would be to develop tourism by bicycle, installing information signs along the routes aimed at indicating historic buildings, parks and commercial activities in our city ".

Future Mobility Concept

The Covid-19 pandemic has caused a real earthquake in the world of transport. The need to ensure social distancing in order to avoid gatherings, which represent a vector for the spread of the virus, has led many to opt for private transport by choosing one of the means that are part of the electric micromobility ecosystem, consisting of ebike, scooters and single wheel, able to guarantee safe transport and zero emissions. And many companies are presenting various solutions that go in this direction.

This is the case of Canyon, a German company specializing in the production of road bicycles and e-bikes, which showed a concept, called Future Mobility Concept and designed in collaboration with the Technical University of Aachen, which is the perfect fusion between two worlds. almost diametrically opposite, namely that of the bicycle and that of the car.

Yes, because looking at the Future Mobility Concept one gets the impression of being in the presence of a car but in reality we are faced with a four-wheeled vehicle covered with a light bodywork, useful for repairing the driver from bad weather, to move by pushing the pedals. Despite being 230 cm in length, 101 in height and 83 in width, it weighs 95 kg and is fast and stable enough to be used on the road, but light and agile to be used also on cycle paths.
In addition, the capsule that protects the rider, and has a clean and aerodynamic shape, can be opened when it is not necessary to shelter from the elements. In the back of the passenger compartment there is enough space to seat a child, carry luggage or shopping bags.

The position of the pilot inside the capsule is quite comfortable; the feet are extended so as to facilitate pedaling, and to turn left or right (the maximum turning radius is 7 meters) there are two joysticks placed at the height of the driver's hip.
The operating mechanism is very similar to that of e-bikes; the electric motor is activated by pedaling and is able to guarantee up to 150 km of autonomy (the battery is from a 2,000 Wh battery) and to push it up to 60 km / h of maximum speed.

Future Mobility is currently only a concept that has been illustrated with some renderings, so the road to get to a series production is still long. However, the company has declared that it wants to homologate it to be able to circulate on the cycle paths.
