Bike & more

If you love to enjoy outdoors days not only on the saddle of your beloved bike, we have found a nice and brilliant idea.

Easily transport your paddleboard to the water using your bicycle. It's unique design allows you to transport your paddleboard right on the side of your bike. Perfect for short trips to the beach, lake, or river without the need for racking your SUP on top of your vehicle. Built with all aluminum and stainless steel components, this rack is ready for both freshwater and saltwater environments. No longer do you need to haul your bulky, heavy SUP to the water; install this rack on your bike so you can get to the water faster and with less effort so you can enjoy your day on your SUP!

If you want to ride your bike without the rack, removing it is literally a push of two buttons! A push button at each rack arm removes the arms from your bike; reinsert the arms whenever you're ready to load your paddleboard again.

The U-shaped rack is sized to fit most paddleboards up to 6" wide and 25 lbs. Rack your YOGA, All Around, Surfing, Touring, Racing, or Flatwater board on this awesome bike rack! The width of your board will need to fit below your bike's handlebars which is why this rack works best on Beach Cruiser style bikes since the handlebars sit higher and allow more space for your wider SUP.

The initial install of this rack is super easy! The rack itself is a set of 2 independent rack arms, 1 mounted at the front of your bike, and 1 mounted at the rear of your bike. To begin, you simply secure the rack’s front U-clamp to your bike’s headstock. The clamp comes with padded rubber to protect your bike’s paint, and will fit a wide variety of head stock diameters.

An entire day dedicated to sustainable mobility and the use of bicycles in Genoa: the association tRiciclo - low impact children is organizing it today, Friday 26 March, by joining "M’illumino di meno".

Departure at 8-8.30: appointment in various points of the city for a collective bicycle ride with the little pupils of some kindergartens, primary and lower secondary schools.

Routes by bike (bicibus) and on foot (pedibus) for a total of about 80 people involved including children, parents and teachers. Under the watchful eye of mothers and fathers, they will cross the city animating the streets and bringing a breath of fresh air to the polluting and noisy urban mobility. Small wheels for great ideals: the idea of the association is to put pedibuses and bicibuses into a system, starting a dialogue with the competent municipal offices that have received with great attention the requests of the families.

"Embrace 'mobility': make the leap of species with mum and dad" is the invitation to the event, inspired by the 2021 theme of M'illumino di meno, day of energy saving and sustainable lifestyles launched by Caterpillar and Radio 2.

The initiative has the patronage of the Municipality of Genoa and the Regional School Office: the Municipal Police will support the groups, each made up of about 15 children (in addition to parents, there will also be "guardian angels"). Others will reach schools with pedibuses: one of these, active since September, will be organized towards the Barrili primary school, but every day new parents are added who wish to experience this modality of gentle mobility (IC Castelletto has promoted the initiative on its website).

A different Friday than usual which, however, is already a good daily practice for many families.

The event has attracted the interest of the specialized companies Bosch and Power System Italia and Riese and Müller, who have made available to the association a pedal-assisted cargo bike that will play an escort role and will also be used to transport the children's backpacks. smaller, to ensure maximum safety in this first collective ride.

Jonathan Parker

Time trial specialist Jonathan Parker claims to have broken the record for the fastest 100 miles during a “test run” on Saturday, 13 March with an incredible time of 2:49:58, eight minutes under the current RRA record held by science teacher Jonathan Shubert.

The 46-year-old barrister rode at an average speed of around 35.29mph (56.8km/h) on an A-to-B course from the top of Qatar to a road that ends in the desert in the south of the country.

100 miles is 160.9km, but Parker rode on a little further to 161.08km, “just to be sure,” and stopped his cycling computer at 2:50:12. By his calculation, this puts his 100-mile time at 2:49:58.

“I didn't even know I was going to do a test run until the afternoon before. I had been looking for good conditions, and the wind direction forecast changed on the Friday afternoon. I had done a few days' training and a 100km ride the day before—not the best preparation!"

“But when I started, the average speed was great and I felt pretty good, so I just kept going. After about 120km, it was clear that I had a chance to beat the record if I could keep going to the end. I'd not really been pacing for the whole ride though and that last 40km was nothing short of horrible. I stopped pedalling lots towards the end, just to get small breaks.”

With a body weight of 79kg, Parker dug in to hold a normalised power of 318 watts over 100 miles. “There was a horrible slow crosswind section where I really had to tuck in and push 390 watts for nine minutes.”

The TT specialist was aboard a Giant Trinity Advanced Pro, with a Pro tri-spoke wheel at the front and Aerocoach disc at the rear, along with Speedplay aero pedals and an SRM power meter. But the bike is not the only important bit of kit when it comes to a record-breaking attempt and Parker ensured he optimised in other areas too.
“I've done a lot of aero testing (wind tunnels and track, plus using Notio to do my own testing), and clothing makes a big difference,” he said.

He added: ”There is a lot of attention to detail on drag savings given that over 100 miles at high speed, just 2-3 watts can make a significant difference. Small details to reduce drag include the use of Speed Skewers and taping the vents in the helmet, while other forms of drag were minimised through such means as coating the chain in melted PTFE powder and running the super low rolling resistance Veloflex Record 2020 tyres.”

Parker says it usually takes a few weeks for records to be verified; let's keep the finger crossed for Jonathan!

Carretera Austral

Alberto, a young high school student, demonstrates for the freedom of Chile.

Forty years later he decides to discover Chilean Patagonia by pedal, a fascinating territory inhabited by a wild and often hostile nature, furrowed by fjords, volcanoes, impenetrable forests clinging to the rugged Andes mountain range, boundless expanses of glaciers, and populated by wild animals .

Alberto rides a bicycle in the company of his son Fausto and trusted friend Dino to cross this territory along the Carretera Austral, a must on the road, in the direction of Ushuaia.
1240 kilometers towards nowhere will make the three protagonists roll towards the south, tossed about as in a centrifuge from the ripio, the infamous dirt road.

#BikeForFuture!

On March 19, on the occasion of the Global Day of Action for the climate, the memebers of the Fridays for future movement in Milan will ride through the streets of the city (with masks and respecting the safety distances) arriving at around 12.00 in the Duomo and will do something spectacular with bicycles as explained by Andrea Galassini, spokesperson for Fridays for future Milan.

They will take to the streets again to demand climate justice, demanding that our future and that of our planet be protected before profits, and that politics take its responsibilities and keep its promises of ecological transition.

"When science tells us that the Rt index has risen above a certain limit, we immediately trigger the red zone, we immediately put the restrictions, politics acts urgently. Well, as far as the climate crisis is concerned, it's been 50 years since there is scientific consensus on the fact that this is the greatest emergency that humanity has to face, because it concerns everyone's health. Yet, the same attitude of politics does not exist in the face of this emergency ".

Andrea Messa

Green soul, desire to solve short-term needs for which there is a gap in the market, vision for the near future. Then let's put a successful communication expert, a wonderful advertising campaign with a classical dancer already known on the international scene, and who incidentally is also her daughter, and the ingredients of success are all there.

The epilogue is called MessaCycles, an all-Italian entrepreneurial story, conquering the London market and maybe beyond. And since life also takes a bit of luck, MessaCycle without being able to foresee it opened exactly on the opposite side of the road from the brand new and futuristic hit shop Amazon fresh, the one without the cash to pay, the first in the world outside the States United, in that Ealing which in the last week has had a place of honor on the map of world trends.

And now, rewind. Andrea Messa, as we said, is a communication expert; he has thirty years of experience behind him, lived from one continent to another: Turkey, Germany, Spain, the United States and the United Arab Emirates, among the various regions of the world that he has called home. Then, about ten years ago, I landed in England: "We had to choose where to have our daughters study at university", he says with his Milanese pragmatism, "and London seemed the best choice".

With him who for work continued to travel the world, and the airports - and the many hours on the plane - a constant in his life. When Covid decreed the end of the broadcasts, Andrea, like many others, had to rethink his life: the work was still there, but the meetings had become virtual, and he had moved from the international lounges to the garden of his home in Ealing , and then around the marvelous parks of one of the greenest residential areas of the British capital: pedaling freely was now a way to release the tension of the many hours in front of a screen, the discoveries on his historic Bianchi bicycle had replaced downtime between planes and airports around the world.

Fast forward: one day in April, returning from one of his long excursions, he tells his family that he wants to turn his passion into a business: there is a gap in the market, there is no offer of mid-range but excellent bicycles quality. There are the many chains with cheap products and then the high end offer, but nothing for those who want a complete experience and a quality product without spending a fortune.

MessaCycle and his business plan are born sitting around the kitchen table, the living room becomes a bicycle shed, all imported from Italy thanks to Andrea's friendships with the Italian producers who have made the history of two wheels. Marketing is entrusted to flyers, all very homemade and yet it works; after all, let's not forget, Andrea is a communication expert. Its marketing campaign reminds fellow citizens that the bicycle is perfect to support that return to the future made up of local and eco-sustainable purchases that the pandemic requires, and then has social distancing built in, by definition integrated social distancing.

Many requests arrive and many interested customers: Andrea receives them in the garden, offers them a coffee and chats to find out which is the best item for their needs. He will thus sell 120 Italian bikes with personality, from the garage to the living room to the garden, and on another.

The qualitative leap towards more structured entrepreneurship comes when he decides to contact his Council: he has an idea that works but there is no adequate commercial space. The support is immediate, the rest is recent history: a beautiful retail space, designed more like a showroom than the usual bicycle shop; The Mass brand bicycles have now been added to the offer of the historic brands, and then again the accessories, from water bottles, clothing, helmets, and all the details for a complete and personalized experience.

The garden belongs to the privacy of the family again, while on the other side of the road the many queuing to enter the Amazon fresh look with interest at MessaCycle: because, as we read on the advertisement that portrays her daughter who pirouettes leaning on the bar a bicycle, after all Life is about balance.

Adidas used the 'normal' version of the Samba as the basis of this new model, and then made changes that made the new shoes perfect for all those who use quick release pedals. The makers have studied the particular insertion of a niche made inside the rubber sole in which to add the clips useful for use on the pedals. In this way, walking with the Adidas Velosamba is as comfortable as with any other sneaker, the walk is fluid, and lateral and rear reflective inserts have been added to the shoes, in order to increase visibility even in the darkest hours of the day.

Adidas has decided to create shoes compatible with quick release pedals but ideal for all urban cyclists who leave nothing to chance, especially if we talk about looks (now bikes and eBikes are the preferred means of getting around the city). Velosamba is the most recent novelty in the range of cycling products of the brand, a shoe able to integrate the look of a sneaker and the compatibility with the quick release pedals, those used to make the foot and pedal integral and obtain a pedal stroke. more efficient.

The Velosambas are more rigid thanks to a reinforced plate inserted precisely to apply a more effective push on the pedals without causing the shoe to deform too much, but still soft enough for everyday use even for walking. The upper is in leather, the inner lining in fabric, the rubber sole and the lace-up closure.
