Bruxelles raddoppia

Brussels has doubled the number of cyclists in 5 years, only in 2018 the city has registered an increase of 16% of people who choose the bicycle for their travels.

A result recorded by the Brussels region bicycle observatory confirmed the growing interest of the two-wheeler population.
Some manual counts realized last year in 26 different locations recorded something like 35 thousand cyclists per day, with an average of 275 per hour. In 2013, only 16,000 were "only", an average of 150 per hour.

According to the mobility councilor Pascal Smet, these data are the result of the city's investments in safe and modern cycle infrastructures. All this proves that making quality cycle paths means having more cyclists and fewer cars on the road.

Brussels aims to further improve its infrastructure and to add new routes to the 70 km of existing cycle paths, especially in the area outside the city center.

Oulu

The average temperature during the hottest season is 10 degrees, yet this is enough to understand how particular it is to live in a country like Finland.

But there is no good or bad weather for local students.

Riding a bike at school could be a bizarre idea, but Oulu is normal. Even in winter. Even at minus 20 degrees, a temperature often recorded in this city in northern Finland.

An urban engineer has immortalized everything with a simple shot in the courtyard of the Metsokangas Comprehensive School: hundreds of bicycles immersed in the snow while the students follow the lessons.

On 1200 members between 7 and 17 years, 1000 choose the pedals.

In bicicletta contromano

CORSIE RISERVATE.

The new highway code under discussion in the Transport Committee of the Chamber provides an ad hoc space for bicycles, "an advanced stopping strip".

The municipalities will have to indicate a double line (one for the bikes) in front of the traffic lights and the stops

The text presented by the Transport Commission to the Chamber, signed by Emanuele Scagliusi (M5s) and Massimiliano Capitanio and Alessandro Morelli (Lega), aims to revolutionize the Highway Code and, in some respects, also update it.

Probably for this great attention in the text of the reform has been given to the incentive to purchase the bikes as well as the regulation of circulation.

But let's see how:

BIKE LANE. The cyclists in the queue will have top priority thanks to a lane reserved to them that will allow him to avoid the direct inhalation of the exhaust fumes of cars and buses. The same municipalities will have to intervene on the signs to create, coinciding with traffic lights and stops, what is described in the text as "an advanced stopping strip".

CIRCULATION AGAINST THE FLOW. Total freedom of movement in centers and areas where the speed limit has been set at 30 km / h. Total freedom that also implies going against the border, as the text writes, "regardless of the width of the carriageway and the mass of vehicles authorized to traffic". A new policy that has been practiced for many years in countries where the circulation of bicycles has been perfectly absorbed by pedestrians and motorists.
Indeed, some scientific research shows that the standard, although it may appear risky, does not increase the risk of accidents. Despite this, the text proposed to the Chamber provides that this particular possibility, that is, from the text of "circulating in the opposite direction to that of travel with respect to other vehicles" is decided or not by the local municipal administration and must be marked with a cartel.

FREE PARKING. The parking problem will no longer exist, the text in fact certifies the absolute freedom to leave your vehicle as well as in areas used by the municipality, even on sidewalks and pedestrian areas.

BIKE IN THE BUS LANE. The new law, if and when it passes, also provides the possibility for cyclists to use the lanes reserved for taxi to bus.

The helmet will become mandatory but several amendments of the decree provide the incentive for the purchase

The plague of doping has always been one of the main problems of the cycling world, but the story that comes from the United States is almost unbelievable.

Carl Grove, who graduated from the US in the 90-94-year-old category last July, took the title (and with it also the world record he had established) because he found positive for an anabolic steroid (epitrenbolone) on the test. anti-doping to which he has submitted after winning the Masters Championships at the track in Breinigsville, Pennsylvania.

In the end, Grove was not disqualified, but received a warning letter from the USA - the US anti-doping agency - that accepted his thesis: on the eve of the trial the man would eat meat from a farm that uses hormones from growth.

Grove has thus lost the title and also the world record, but will try again in the future: the race that won in July there were no other participants in its age group.

Kapp To Cape

The first episode of an incredible adventure arrived on the Loft platform on February 18, 2019.

Reza Pakravan, a 39-year-old financial analyst with well-paid employment in one of London's largest banking institutions, decides to quit her job to engage in a long bicycle trip. It starts from North Cape, in Norway, the northern tip of Europe in the Arctic polar circle. "Throughout my life I have been inspired by explorers and adventurers. After years of conformity I took a drastic decision to realize my dream ".

The objective of the company is to pedal along the length of the planet from north to south in record time, from North Cape in Norway to Cape Town in South Africa: 11 thousand miles (18 thousand km) in three months. Reza's traveling companion is Steven Pawley.

To beat the record it is necessary to cycle for 200 km a day, but the contingencies are around the corner everywhere.

In planning the journey, the first problem to be faced is the impossibility of crossing Syria which is a war zone. So the Guiness World Record has consented to divide the expedition into two stages: the first, from the North Cape to Shiraz, in Iran, the country of origin of Reza, then, the flight to Cairo, city of departure of the second stage until Cape town, Steven's homeland. The two cyclists will have to cross very dangerous areas like Dagestan. "I think that even if I fail, it will still be a good story, I will be able to tell my children that at least I tried," says Reza at the end of her last day in London. After two days they arrive in Finland: there are still 12 countries to cross and 98 days to live. When they arrive in St. Petersburg it's night and it's raining heavily, but they manage to find a couple who offers to host them for the night. "These are the things worth traveling for, meeting people so that from nothing they invite two strangers on their bikes to their home. It's incredible". Even the couple that hosts them speaks to them about Dagestan and the attention they will have to do in that country.

Approaching the Republic of Kalmykia, near Dagestan, the local police stopped the two cyclists for a check of the documents and called an interpreter to interrogate them on their journey. So, for the umpteenth time they are discouraged compared to the idea of crossing the Dagestan. "If I have to choose between risking or leaving the shipment, I give up," says Steven, frightened by police warnings. So they decide to separate: Reza will cross the Dagestan while Steven will reach it in Baku. "I have no idea what awaits me on the road ahead of me - Reza admits - Yet the whole expedition is about conquering the unknown. So, in spite of my fears, I am ready to keep my head down and to ride to the end ".

The Levi's jeans jacket, an icon of the casual 80s, is a pioneer of a fashion-tech vision.

Never as in this case are the details that make the difference, and here the most important is the left cuff: just touch it to control the smartphone.

Commuter Trucker Jacket is the latest achievement in wearable technologies after Google Glass and Apple Watch. The revolution is now dedicated to the two wheels. "A cyclist who endangers his life to control the screen of a cell phone or another device ... These are situations that pushed me to realize this project", explains Paul Dillinger, head of innovation at the denim multinational . «Not for the incredible functionality, but for an immediate need».

In addition to the Levi's tailors, working at the smart sleeve, they are the engineers of ATAP, the laboratory of the avant-gardes of Google or, to put it in the words of the director Regina Dugan, "a group of pirates trying to make epic stuff".

They have developed the Project Jacquard technology, special conductive wires that allow the addition of interactive skills to textile products such as clothing and furnishing accessories.

Just sew them on fabrics (from jeans to cotton, to silk) to create a 'sensitive' area, like the touch screen of an iPad. So: cell phone in your pocket and earphones in your ears, there are three gestures allowed on the jacket for now. "Switch your hand up and listen to the correct time," Dillinger continues. "Switch your hand down and activate the voice guidance of Google Maps. From the two taps and select a song ». Or answer the phone or browse the calendar.

It depends on how you customize the App that supports the system, along with the Bluetooth device camouflaged as a button.

It seems complicated, it's very simple: with over 19 billion garments made every year, the Google ATAP project aims to introduce new features into the clothes we wear every day, making them smarter.

This is a wearable GPS device, which allows you to browse maps and see the routes without taking off your smartphone every time.

OnTracks was presented at CES 2019 in Las Vegas by a French startup that calls it 'intuitive GPS'. It is designed to meet those who play sports, making life easier.

The tracker is worn on the wrist and transmits information to the user through a series of vibrations. So you can understand what direction to take without consulting a map and keeping your attention on the road.

The product has 2 quadrants, like two watches (they are called GuideWatches) that are worn on the wrists through elastic bands that can also be worn over gloves or a bike handlebars. The round displays are minimal and face-to-face and display the path we have chosen to arrive at our destination.

Just crush Go and the device starts to track our movement by synchronizing with the map. The deviations, the turns are signaled with vibrations according to the direction to be taken: on the right wrist if you have to turn right, otherwise on the left.

OnTracks will go into production from February 2019. The price should be somewhere between 150 and 200 euros.

Mindfulness consists in a meditative practice based on the training of attention to the present moment, perceived through all our senses and without applying any kind of judgment.

A state of simple contemplation in its concept and very tiring to practice in the beginning.

This inner road can also be traveled by bike, perhaps after first training at home, at home, comfortable and quiet. Taking meditation out can be complicated at first and it is best to first get a little 'familiarity with your body when it is in that state.

Cycling actually has several small advantages that can really help our spirit.
It is an outdoor activity, aerobic, fun, which trains our sense of freedom and our threshold of attention, now more and more compromised.

When you get on your bicycle pay attention to how you enter into interaction with her. Stop to feel the consistency of the knobs, the seat, the feet on the cranks, study the shape well, the size, try to extract more details that you can. This will allow you to anchor yourself to something real and not to your thoughts. Whenever you feel that you are taking a mental drift, anchor yourself to your bicycle.
During the first approaches with mindfulness it is better to avoid group outings.

Listen to the world around you, moment by moment.

It's a book-interview with women's cycling written by Marco Marando and Ambrogio Rizzi with prefaces by UCI president David Lappartient and former world champion Edita Pucinskaite, and a hundred photos

20 dialogues (out of the race) with athletes and coaches and seven (running), plus other interviews with insiders, starting from c.t. of Italian women's teams, Edoardo Salvoldi (and interviews with foreign athletes are in English or French, without translation).

"Following a dream" is also an X-ray of the cycling movement, an exploration of the competitive world, a point in the situation between glances to the past and hypotheses for the future, and it is above all a declaration of love.

A book not to be missed!

Effetto bici

Behind the new urban cycling fashion, determined by the search for sustainable mobility and a valid alternative to traditional means of transport, there seems to be a more primitive and no less urgent act: to experience and enjoy a life similar to meditation.

In this sense Zen appears as a perfect reference point to make the cyclist understand what is happening to his body, to his mind and to that state of self in which words do not arrive.

Something as simple as pedaling is then transformed into another journey, an authentic practice of encounter with a more intimate nature.

Bike Effect is a vital, sensitive book, but it is also a manual that includes small instructions for use to go and to let go.

Knot a bike

There are those who knot the handkerchief, who tie and who instead of the frame of their bike.

As they say in Latin: "De gustibus non disputandum est".
You may like it or not, but surely the Knot a bike (www.knotabike.com) by Piero Cappelli, in collaboration with Giorgio Lanfredi, is unlikely to go unnoticed.
The bike is fully made in Italy, to be precise in Milan, and can be customized according to customer needs.

"The goal - explains the designer duo - is to attract the attention of those who now consider bicycles a simple component of urban furniture and have lost the ability to observe them. Thanks to the knot people take a second look and maybe think for a few seconds more to the potential of the bike as an eco-sustainable means of transport in a busy city like Milan ".

If this were enough to increase the soft mobility, then live the bikes with the knot!

Marco Mattia Cristofori

In 2018, the young inventor ascolano was the "project leader" of the first tubeless bicycle wheel produced with a "3D printer" and also completed the first prototype of an electric motorbike, always made with a "3D printer" ".

In an interview, Marco Mattia recounted how the idea of designing the first non-inflated bicycle wheel with compressed air was born:
"I have seen that many large companies are betting on tubeless tires for every type of vehicle. Nobody, however, had tried to print one in 3D, which was functional for a bicycle. I researched a lot, I modeled and printed many small models, to be able to have the same behavior of a normal compressed air tire for bicycles. Then I succeeded. As soon as the press was ready, I installed it on a colleague's bike and tried to pedal. Later, my department head called me and asked if I was going back to his design studio. "
