Training app

The rise of smartphones is now unstoppable, producing an army of zombies - or almost! - always attached to the screen, more inclined to live the life of others instead of one's own, or living in the anxiety to communicate to the whole world every single gesture that is being made.

In any case, intelligent use of this indispensable communication / sharing device is possible.

In our case it is a question of monitoring our rides, effectively replacing the classic GPS cycling computer like a smartwatch or fitness tracker. Many training apps can be associated with these dedicated devices, storing every single data of our outputs, but not only. For example, we can set challenges to beat our personal records, a useful motivational tool.

Many apps also allow you to follow a specific training program, offering a lot of tools - an optional feature that is often paid for - to evaluate your progress.

But always remember that you are out to have fun and that your ride should not be defined solely by the fact that you have scored a KOM or not or beat your maximum power record.

Comprendere quello che state facendo vi aiuterà a notare e assimilare meglio i vostri progressi.

For many it represents the starting point for training, regardless of sport.
A wrist fitness tracker or a more advanced smartwatch with an optical cardio sensor will help you perceive certain efforts better. Understanding what you are doing will help you better notice and assimilate your progress.

The advice is to start by carefully observing the average and maximum frequency to assess whether your ride has met the goals you had set yourself. A device equipped with a cardio sensor - even the simple chest strap to be coupled to the GPS cycle computer - is perfect for letting you know if your pace is what you expected as well as directing your efforts on the pedals, based on the time spent in the various percentage ranges that indicate the quality of the work done.
You must be aware that the daily heart rate can fluctuate a lot in relation to the power applied to the pedals, depending on the weather conditions, fatigue, hydration, sleep, etc.

If you want to keep this data under control - an indicator of your health - a fitness tracker or a smartwatch is what you need, taking into account a measurement accuracy not as faithful as a heart rate monitor (apart from high-end devices ).

Business of performance and fitness monitoring is growing more and more. Wrist fitness trackers, smart watches, power meters to be applied to the bike, home training rollers, or simple smartphone apps that keep track of physical exercises, which provide information on training and indicate how to improve. But there is much more in this world, in fact the social aspect has become dominant, being able to share your performances with the world hoping to get in touch with other fans like you, perhaps gaining some kudos along your path to victory or simply towards improving your fitness. We present a small list of electronic gadgets for cycling faster.

Cycle Computer

GPS-equipped cycle computers are a very popular tool among cycling enthusiasts, both road and off-road.
The reasons are simple: they display and record the essential pedaling data (speed, distance, time, altitude difference, etc.), offering - based on level and functionality - full support for training and / or navigation, as well as to the connection with popular apps starting from the famous Strava social platform.

They range from a minimal and compact design, with essential functions, to devices with a size comparable to a smartphone, with an ultra-defined color screen and advanced functions to monitor every possible data including those that come from external sensors.

Obviously there is no lack of complete connectivity (Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, etc.), communicating in real time - or almost - with your smartphone. As always, it's all about needs and price.

Kit riparazione

The Nextool branded gadget is very compact: it measures a few cm and weighs 160 g, making it very practical to carry, thanks also to the special bag.
Its mechanism does not differ so much from a Swiss army knife: little space but a lot of practicality. Numerous tools are integrated in a few cm, attached to the load-bearing structure by magnetic attachments, starting from a flat hexagonal key with a triple diameter (8, 10 and 15 mm).
There is also a smaller 13G / 14G wrench to strengthen the connection of the wheel spokes, as well as a tool for venting the valve.
There is also a double-sided abrasive part to finish the inner tube repairs, as well as a tool to extract the wheel from the rim. To complete the whole thing there is a Phillips screwdriver for the various screws, both star and slotted, as well as various 3/4/5/6 mm hexagonal tips.

Do it!!!

"Staying at home is not a good reason not to struggle. You can still make a good training."

Here is an interview with Nico Valsesia edited by mountain.tv

A cyclist does not need to become big, so it is possible to do many bodyweight exercises such as walking lunges. Keeping your back straight, step forward with your left (or right) leg, slightly longer than normal, and go down to touch the floor with your right (or left) knee. Repeat also for the other leg. 5 sets for 20 lunges are already a great workout. Squats are very useful for strengthening thighs and buttocks. These too can be done bodyweight, a good compromise and make 5 sets of 50.

The more trained can do the same exercises by putting a backpack on their shoulders with ten or twenty kilos of weight inside. To reach them you can use everyday objects, even bottles full of water are fine.

Cycling also has calves of importance and to keep them trained you can do a simple and effective exercise. It is sufficient to look for a step on which to place the front part of the foot, leaving the heel in a vacuum. At this point, go down as far as possible with the heel and then push upwards. The gesture is repeated several times. Here too, 5 sets of 40 bodyweight are a good workout. The more trained can increase the load with a backpack.

The abs are very useful on the bike. It is essential to practice some core stability exercises such as plank: place your forearms on the ground taking care to position them in a parallel position with each other and in a straight line with the shoulders. At this point, you rise on your toes, then hold your position for about thirty seconds. In addition to these it is very important to do many exercises to strengthen both low and high abs. A quick search on the net is enough to find different exercises to alternate.

The neck muscles are those that are neglected more and more. There are several ways to train it. One is to use a helmet with weights, "as I have done several times during the months when I was preparing the RAAM". Usually you do it when you go out on a bike, but you can also do it by standing on the rollers. Another exercise is to lie down on the bed, with your head in a vacuum, then lift it up and down. 5 sets of 20 reps are a great workout.

For professionals or for the more trained I recommend a tool that can significantly improve performance without having to leave home. It is called Forza Pura and it is a crank of my invention, in practice it is as if it were a gym on pedals. It can be attached to a spinning, or to the bike on the rollers and allows you to do many exercises. Being independent, you can do different exercises to make the muscles of the quadriceps, biceps femoris, hip flexors and buttocks work a lot.

Allenamenti indoor

Allenamenti a porte chiuse per tutti.
Professionisti inclusi.

Indoor workouts for everyone.

Professionals included.

In a few square meters, not losing your pace is not an easy task.
Thanks to the rollers and technology, however, the solution is there.

There are software that allow you to calculate the differences in altitude traveled, and perhaps to retrieve a route that you did live the previous summer, proposing the itinerary in virtual, or you can retrieve the files of some professional cyclists and try the Milan route -Sanremo or Paris-Roubaix - says Longa -.
You can view everything on the screen of a PC or tablet even using an inexpensive 300-400 euro roller ".

Don't go overboard with the rollers.

You certainly don't have to run out of energy and get off the saddle completely debilitated for a home workout. It is important to integrate pedaling with bodyweight exercises or for balance, so that when we return to the saddle, outdoors, we will limit the decompensations especially to the upper body.

And then stretching, at least 5 minutes well done at the end of the session, yoga, and postural gymnastics ".

While pedaling, it is sufficient to drink water (700-800 milliliters per hour) without particular supplements or mineral salts.rulli

Lo sapevi che ...

E-bike with automatic transmission increasingly electric and less bike. This is the goal of Revonte who with the One model goes directly to the world of electric cars, moving away from the way of building a pedal-assisted bike but with parts from a muscle bike. In fact, the One has a direct transmission, called stepless. So no change and gears.

Then the engine runs directly through a series of planetary gears not unlike the system that drives the Toyota Prius. There is an electric motor that engages the torque and another that turns to control the speed of the output drive. A chain connects the crank arm to the rear wheel in a clean design, similar to that of a fixed gear bike. With this it should eliminate the jump of the chain lasting longer, since the links must never bend.
The Revonte One has a rated power of the 250 Watt motor, as required by European Union legislation in order to be able to move freely on the road and in the woods. At the same time, however, it produces 90 Nm of torque and can reach a peak power of 1500 watts. All things that suggest that in the end an integrated drive unit like this could be able to beat others with slower torque and with high gears.
But it is not only in the engine that Revonte One is innovative. In fact, the on-board computer integrates a GPS chip and Bluetooth communications. In addition, the App developed by the Finnish company is open source with customizable modules. In fact, Revonte's project is to produce first of all software for other companies that decide to equip their vehicles with the on-board computer.

For this reason it is easy to add a "find my bike" function to your smartphone app or a "notify me if the bike is moving and I am not" or a "remote wheel lock". And so use Revonte's manual commands or program it to accept other commands at will.

The topic of cycling safety has always been at the center of endless discussions. But how to implement increasingly effective systems to allow cyclists to pedal in conditions of greater tranquility? The device on which it is easier to intervene is undoubtedly the helmet. Briko Cerebellum One is part of this trend.

"We tried to transform the helmet from a passive protection tool to an active protection tool" explains Carlo Boroli, global brand manager of the company specialized in the production of safety devices for skiing and cycling. "Cerebellum One - he continues - is the first helmet in the world equipped with a 'cerebellum' which transmits information to the smartphone positioned on the handlebar of the bike and which gives in real time a series of very important information for the cyclist". Starting with the rear view mirror, up to a rear proximity sensor and an alarm in the event of an accident sent via SMS to a predefined number.

Under the helmet shell, in fact, there are an intelligent microprocessor that integrates a radar, two front and rear Full HD cameras, a GPS multi-sensor and a gyroscope. Once connected to the smartphone, therefore, the helmet offers seven features such as the rear view mirror, an anti-investment radar, a crash alert via sms, a black box, a LED position light, two cameras for photos and videos in Full HD and a warning of dehydration.

In the event of an accident with a vehicle or an accidental fall, Cerebellum One automatically sends a geolocalized text message to a contact selected by the user in order to inform him and allow him to notify the rescuers. At the same time, the integrated black box stores the images of the 2 minutes before and immediately after the impact in the cloud, useful for reconstructing the dynamics of the accident and any responsibilities.

In addition, through special sensors, the helmet is able to detect the temperature and sweating of the cyclist who, in case of need, receives a warning on the smartphone to avoid dehydration problems.

The emotions experienced and the paths taken during the trips to Santiago de Compostela have been translated into a novel, published in November 2019 for Montedit and written by Nicolangelo Faraco.

The marked Bolognese accent would immediately make its origin doubtful, except that it is from Cologno Monzese that he starts riding his bike to travel the world. And the world - from Israel to the United Kingdom, from France to Spain - welcomes him with open arms every time he visits it pedaling.

Nicolangelo Faraco is 62 years old, but the desire to look around - probably acquired at an early age - has never left him: born in Lauria, in the province of Potenza, he moved with his family to the Emilian capital at only 4 years old, to stay there until adulthood, when for love he moved to the Milanese hinterland. Always passionate about sports, he dedicated several years to tennis, and then discovered "almost by accident" the bicycle, which later became his - second - great love.

The book not only tells its story, but also that of the people it met and the places it visited. All from the point of view of a fantasy character who traces the same roads, he tastes the same perfumes.

«It is a guide that can be useful to those who have never done the Way and would like to know what it is like and what you encounter. I wanted to put it in a novel key, telling feelings and emotions that I experienced but decentralizing my person, being on the sidelines. The roads, the climbs, the villages and the routes are completely real ". There will also be a presentation at Villa Fiorita, in Cernusco.

An unexpected result that saw a place with which it has a strong connection: its Basilicata. "In July last year, when I received the news of the publication, I was in the mountains with my friends from the Lauria Cycle Club. We celebrated and they proposed to present it in the village: they took a large hall in the town hall, more than a hundred people were present, I felt good ».

The first presentation of the book that tells of his passion that takes place right where he was born, the metaphorical closing of a circle. He started at just 4 years old and is traveling the world on a bicycle, but his roots have never broken.

Donne in bicicletta

On bicycles to change society and overcome prejudices and clichés in the sprint. Antonella Stelitano's book, which for years has been dealing with sports and human rights, entitled Women on a bicycle is a documented and rich almanac. The stories of the first women in shorts at the track races of the early twentieth century open the way to emancipation and gender equality to be conquered kilometer after kilometer. But it all started a hundred and more years ago from that courage, from those counter-current women: «If today many young athletes can count on a team, a sponsor, a coach, an athletic trainer and a calendar of competitions, they owe it to the brave ones pioneer - says the author -. The path is still long and certainly not easy, but I am sure that, like their colleagues from the last century, they too will not surrender to the motto "head down and pedaling" ».

The thoughts of some of the most well-known Italian cyclists are past and present. Listen to them.
Alfonsina Strada (1891-1959), first and only woman to have raced a Giro d'Italia with men in 1924

«I have good legs, audiences from all over Italy treat me with enthusiasm. I am not repentant. I had bitterness, someone mocked me but I am satisfied and I know I did well ».
Maria Canins, two Tour de France, a Tour of Italy and dozens of international victories "I run for the expenses. If I pay for travel and accommodation, I'm already happy. Professionalism is not there. The salary does not exist »

Antonella Bellutti, gold in Atlanta 1996 (chase) and Sydney 2000 (race by points)
"There is still an uphill road to go and it would be nice for women and men to pedal together. Because there is no democracy without the freedom and respect due to women. The only chain that sets us free is that of the bicycle ".
Elisa Longo Borghini, bronze in Rio 2016 in the road race
«I would be for a sport without gender distinctions. I would like to consider sport as universal, without having to say male or female. It should be the most democratic thing because there are no differences between those who play football, those who run, those who ride bikes. All the same, just people ».

Finally, if you want to give your girls (and your boys) a book of tenacity and fantasy, the world tour by bicycle. The extraordinary adventure of a woman to conquer the freedom of Peter Zheutlin is a safe choice. It tells the exploits of Annie "Londonderry" Kopchovsky (Riga 1870-New York 1947) who, as a bet, in 1894-1895 was the first woman to travel around the world by bike. He financed himself by selling advertising space on his bike or photographs, and wrote daily correspondences for New York World. This nineteenth-century travel blogger returns to Chicago on September 12, 1895, two weeks before the agreed deadline for the bet: "I am a new woman and this means that I am now able to do anything a man does."

Jeep e-Bike

It is the first electric bicycle produced by the American car manufacturer dedicated to all those who love off-road but cannot afford to buy a 4 × 4 or prefer not to pollute the environment.
It was designed for off-road use, in fact it has large 26 ″ tires to travel on all types of terrain that the bike can encounter, including snow and rocks and a suspension system very similar to that of an enduro bike, 150 mm on the front and 120 mm on the rear. These two features make the electric bike softer.

The electric motor on the e-Bike has a power of 750W, more than enough to push it on most off-road routes. Power can be delivered via pedal assistance or thumb throttle, depending on the configuration chosen.

Four-piston hydraulic disc brakes with 203 mm diameter both front and rear.

The American car manufacturer has collaborated with QuietKat for the development of some accessories dedicated to the bike. The starting price is $ 5899 (5306 euros) and can be pre-ordered immediately as shipments begin in June 2020.

MaGio Bike Tour

Berliner Mauerweg

https://www.viagginbici.com/

November 9, 1989 is the day of the fall of the wall that surrounded West Berlin, which had split the city in two for 28 years, the day on which the East German government reopened its borders with the Federal Republic.

Well where there was the wall there is now a cycle path. And so the two wheels pass and travel over history, as if to seal the bicycle as a peaceful and common vehicle. A path over 160 km long, pedaling in the places supervised by DDR soldiers.

It's called Berliner Mauerweg, the Track of the Berlin Wall, and you can pedal safely, immersed in an urban journey that if desired can last almost a week. The track was built between 2002 and 2006 and has 40 connected stations, from 14 sections each between 7 and 21 km, where tourists can dive into the real city and together in the one fictitiously created by Yalta.
There are sections of wall left standing and centers of documentation, memory, museums, monuments such as the sinking wall.

The most “historic” route, about 115 km long, was divided into five languages and three macro-routes on the Berlin.de website.
The first of these is the one that most follows the "hot" areas of the Cold War, Hermsdorf - Mitte - Schönefeld: 50 km that can be traveled by anyone even during the day; all points of attraction are georeferenced and the traveler only needs a smartphone to know where to go and what he is seeing. The other two routes are of similar length, 45 km Schönefeld - Lichterfelde - Griebnitzsee and 65 km - Griebnitzsee - Spandau - Hermsdorf.
