Flamingo

"Bicycle bicycle bicycle
I want to ride my…
bicycle bicycle bicycle
I want to ride my bicycle
I want to ride my bike
I want to ride my bicycle
I want to ride it where I like..."

Robert Penn's It's All About the Bike: The Pursuit of Happiness on Two Wheels is a paean to the humble bike; it's the story of why we ride, and why this simple machine holds the power to transport us all.
Robert Penn has ridden a bike most days of his life. He rides to get to work, to bathe in air and sunshine, to stay sane and to feel free. This is the story of his love affair with cycling and the journey to build his dream bike; a freewheeling pilgrimage taking him from Californian mountain bike inventors to British artisan frame builders, and from perfect components to the path of true happiness.
Penn is not simply a nostalgist; what he really rails against is the idea of built-in obsolescence, and the accepted truth that new technologies automatically trump old ones. In the end, he eschews the lightweight dynamism of carbon fibre for a steel frame made by Brian Rourke Cycles in Stoke-on-Trent because it will be strong, easy to repair and just as dependable 30 years from now.
From here, Penn's odyssey takes him around the world to kit out his bike with the perfect components. These are not necessarily the most expensive ones, but let's just say that he doesn't nip into Halfords at any stage. Some names will be familiar to enthusiasts (Campagnolo, Cino Cinelli, Brooks), others may not be (wheelman Steve "Gravy" Gravenites of California).
It is not exactly a low-carbon exercise, but Penn reminds us that he will make amends by riding his dream creation every day for the next three decades.

The bicycle changes our point of view.
It elevates us, makes us see things from a different perspective and it gives us a sense of nobility imposed by upright and chin up.
It is freedom to stop, to move on and to enjoy the route at the right speed.
It is power: it measures our strength and makes us feel ourselves engines.
It is democracy: everyone can have it  and everyone and knows how to use. And 'an Earth ship says Claude Marthaler, uniting men, distances, generations, social classes, physical ability, serving for transport, trade, sport, artistic expression, the pilgrimage, the journey .
It is sense of balance, the first thing we learn as children when we get on it.
It is health: strengthens the body, it helps to give us a good mood (develops endorphins) and does not pollute.
The bicycle will change the lifestyle. It makes us feel part of what surrounds us, makes us enjoy everything that appears before us. The caress of the wind takes away even the veil of sadness that occasionally becomes a second skin.
It is the place, the time when we scroll off the stress ideas start to born.
You can go anywhere, with streets and places otherwise not visible, you can stop at the very moment in which it decides and the viewing angle is absolutely unique and effective.

Carolina Fontoura Alzaga

One man’s scrap is another man’s art – or in this case another woman’s.
Carolina Fontoura Alzaga is worried that we’re becoming a throw-away society, dumping broken and old technology into the ground without questioning its impact on the environment. That’s OK in the short-term, but what happens when there are mountains upon mountains of rubbish dotted across the landscape?
To that end, she salvages discarded bicycle chains, transforming and connecting them to form these quite beautiful chandeliers. The series is called 'CONNECT' and it's motivating factor is to:
Addresses class codes, power dynamics and ecological responsibility. The traditional chandelier is seen as a bourgeois commodity, a cachet of affluence, excess, and as such power.
The recycled bicycle parts become a representation of the dismissed, invisible, and powerless, but are also an affirmation of self-propelled movement. The bicycle chandelier thereby creates a new third meaning of reclaimed agency.
Alzaga has also created a short-film to explain and showcase the interesting process behind her creations. It does a great job in highlighting her as a genuine individual seeking to make not only a statement but bring about a sense of change in the world.

We love it!!!

This clever helmet is helping kids stay safer while also making the wearer look like a full-sized LEGO man! Designed to resemble the toy's funny hair wig, this ingenious bike helmet will hopefully get kids more excited about riding safely.
The LEGO Hair Bike Helmet was designed by Simon Higby and Clara Prior to help cut back on the number of young kids riding without helmets. Let's face it! Normal helmets are hot and ugly looking, who really wants to wear one anyway? But this nifty design makes it way more fun to play it safe.
So far, the helmet is just a prototype. But we think these guys are definitely on the right track. This LEGO Man Hair Helmet is way more fun than the smelly old helmets our moms used to force us to wear.

Bike lights

Bike lights are a crucial purchase if you’re a cyclist.
Let's check some proposals that can help you to find your ideal bike light:

Blaze Laserlight

As well as a very bright LED (300 lumens) that really lights up the road in front of you, the Laserlight also has a projection capability which shines the outline of a bike in green onto the tarmac so drivers and other cyclists can see you coming a bit more easily. It’s solidly made from aluminium so it won’t rust. The mount fits the vast majority of handlebars and is made from steel. Highly effective.

Cateye EL135 Omni 5 Set

Cateye EL135 Omni 5 Set

This is one of the leading brands of bike lights – an established and reliable name. The front light has three LEDs and casts a wide, bright beam. The set also includes a rear light with five LEDs that can be set to static, flashing and rapid flashing. Both are easily removed from their mounting brackets.

Specialized Stix Sport Combo Lightset

Abbastanza luminoso.

Specialized Stix Sport Combo Lightset

This pair of lights from excellent Californian bike brand Specialized means you’ll be seen as you approach and from behind. The front light is bright enough (70 lumens) to be unmissable, though if you ride dark country roads you may want something brighter. The lights are recharged by USB and offer decent life if you stick to flashing rather than solid beam settings.

WingLights

WingLights

These lights have a specific function – they’re direction indicators. Screw the universal mounter into the end of your handlebars and the lights connect magnetically. Then when you’re about to turn, tap the appropriate light and it’ll flash a bright amber light.

Cateye Rapid X3 100

100 lumen.

Cateye Rapid X3 100

The 100 in the title refers to this rear light’s brightness – 100 lumens is all you need and more. The extra brightness means you can use this light during the day, too. The light recharges via USB in three hours and the X3 is pleasingly slim, so it’ll sit happily along the line of pretty much any seat post. There are six light settings, some constant, some variations on flashes.

Knog Oi Bell

.

Bike bells generally look and sound a bit ugly. But why? What if they looked sexy and sounded like an angel playing a glockenspiel?
Knog has revolutionized the design of the bicycle bell with the Oi bell.
The bells fit on almost all cylindrical bars. The "Small" Oi is for the common 22.2mm bar and the "Large" Oi is for all sizes up to 31.8mm. Built into the shape of the mount is a cable management system. So not only does it allow the bell to look and sound uninterrupted, it also helps gather your cables.

Tulip fan rack

- Smontare il portabiciclette dalla base;
- Allentare il bullone di fissaggio attraverso il foro nella parte inferiore;
- Spingere la punta libera fuori dal tubo;
-Spingere la nuova copertura sul filo;
-Far scorrerel coperchio lungo il filo fino a raggiungere l'interno del tubo fisso;

Tulip Fan Fan-2 is an elastic and safe rack resembling a meadow. Tulip Fan Fan-2 provides freedom to choose the way and direction of placing the bike. The fixing place of the bike is not uniquely determined hence it is suitable for fixing bikes with different height and different type of frame. When placing the Tulip Fan Fan bike racks side by side, it is possible to create partitions, artificial barriers to the city environment.There are two ways for fixing the rack – either with bolted connections/wedge anchors into the ground or casted to concrete.
The new improved Tulip Fan Fan-2 has a more stable and stiff form and a frolicsome shape. The upper third of the bike rack is flexible, so it can even hold bikes with bigger than average wheels. Thanks to a spatial and constructive solution it achieves better stability while placing the bike sideways or with the front wheel in the rack. It is also now possible to change the rubber or PVC cover protecting the metal rope or the bike frame for the purpose of changing colours or giving it a fresher look.
-Dismount the bike rack from the base;
-Loosen the bolt of the fastening through the hole in the bottom;
-Pull the free tip out of the tube;
-Bend the rack straight and remove the cover;
-Push the new cover onto the wire;
-Slide the cover along the wire until it reaches the inside of the fixed tube;
-Place the loose end back into the second tube and fasten it with the bolt again;
-Place the bike rack to its former place.

WeWatt

2 - Generare potenza umana - Creare energia utilizzabile.

Brisbane International Airport have recently installed phone-charging stations at the check-in area of the international terminal which requires the user to pedal an exercise bike to get some charge.
The airport is not the first place in the world to install such a system with similar set-ups at Brussels Airport and various train stations throughout Belgium, France and the Netherlands.
The system was developed by WeWatt, a company based in Leuven, Belgium. WeWatt describe their concept in three steps:
1 – Start Cycling – We fight the sitting disease by giving people energizing exercise in their daily life while travelling, working, meeting, reading or just relaxing.
2 – Generate Human Power – We self-power people by turning human kinetic energy into usable power.
3 – Charge and Share – We enjoy and engage people by making them experience our pedal powered tables to charge & share their own energy.
The company also offer various other options such as workstations and an outdoor charging station. They have even developed an App to enable users to monitor information such as energy produced (HumanWh), calories burned (kcal), distance biked (km) and battery status (% of total capacity).

Strava e Emoji

The social media sharing site for cyclists has upped its game and moved into the emoji-century. In September 2015, Strava allowed the simple ‘smiley’ emoji, but up until last night that was pretty much it. The site received several requests for a greater breadth of Emoji options, but none arrived. Until now.
As of yesterday evening, you can now express your emotions on Strava – even when words fail you. Which, let’s face it, is more common by bike than in any other scenario.
