Ancora qualche giorno e poi RCS Sport presenterà ufficialmente il percorso del Giro d’Italia 2021. Il tracciato è ormai disegnato, visto che gli organizzatori hanno completato i sopralluoghi di rito e stanno definendo gli ultimi dettagli prima della presentazione. Quanto al percorso l’unica parte già presentata ufficialmente è la partenza in Piemonte, che avverrà sabato 8 maggio con una cronometro individuale di nove chilometri a Torino.
Il tracciato si snoderà quasi interamente nel nord e nel centro, con pochissimo sud.
Dopo la crono iniziale a Torino, la corsa rosa resterà in Piemonte per altri due giorni, con una tappa pianeggiante da Stupinigi a Novara e una più mossa da Biella a Canale. Dal Piemonte si passerà in Emilia-Romagna, molto coinvolta anche in questa edizione del Giro. La quarta tappa, da Piacenza a Sestola, offrirà un primo test in montagna, mentre nella successiva frazione con arrivo a Cattolica (SOLO 2 KM DAL NOSTRO HOTEL) dovrebbero tornare in scena le ruote veloci del gruppo.
Il Giro dovrebbe scendere poi dal versante adriatico facendo tappa ad Ascoli e Termoli, e toccando il punto più a sud a Foggia.
Nella sua fase centrale omaggerà anche Alfredo Martini, nel centenario della nascita. Dopo la ripartenza da Siena è previsto il passaggio a Sesto Fiorentino, paese del più vincente Ct della nazionale di Ciclismo, sulla strada che porta verso Bagno di Romagna.
Dopo l’arrivo a Verona è infatti certo l’arrivo sul Monte Zoncolan, previsto per sabato 22 maggio. Si salirà però dal versante meno battuto, quello di Sutrio, affrontato solo una volta dal Giro, nell’edizione 2003 con il successo di Gilberto Simoni. Dopo una tappa friulana molto mossa, con arrivo a Gorizia, una frazione dolomitica con il passo Giau e il traguardo a Cortina.
Prima è previsto un arrivo in salita a Campo Felice, poi una cronometro individuale in Umbria, da Foligno a Perugia, e poi una tappa molto suggestiva ed insidiosa in Toscana. In quest’ultima frazione, con probabile arrivo a Montalcino, saranno affrontate le strade bianche senesi, quegli sterrati dove nell’edizione 2010 Cadel Evans vinse una tappa resa eroica dal maltempo.
Altre salite nella giornata seguente con l’arrivo in Trentino a Sega di Ala.
La proposizione di ascese relativamente nuove è uno dei temi più interessanti di questo Giro d’Italia 2021. Dopo la tappa da Rovereto a Bergamo sarà infatti la volta delle ultime due frazioni di montagna, entrambe su salite da scoprire per il grande ciclismo. Prima si tornerà in Piemonte per salire all’Alpe Mera, un’ascesa di quasi 10 km al 9% di pendenza media. Quindi da Verbania si affronterà l’ultima sfida in montagna che porterà all’Alpe Motta / Madesimo, in Val Chiavenna.
La conclusione sarà domenica 30 maggio a Milano con una cronometro individuale.
In few days RCS Sport will officially present the route of the Giro d'Italia 2021. The route has now been designed, given that the organizers have completed the usual inspections and are defining the final details before the presentation. As for the route, the only part already officially presented is the start in Piedmont, which will take place on Saturday 8 May with a nine-kilometer individual time trial in Turin.
The route will run almost entirely in the north and center, with very little south.
After the initial time trial in Turin, the pink race will remain in Piedmont for another two days, with a flat stage from Stupinigi to Novara and a more lively one from Biella to Canale. From Piedmont we will move on to Emilia-Romagna, which is also very involved in this edition of the Giro. The fourth stage, from Piacenza to Sestola, will offer a first test in the mountains, while in the following stage with arrival in Cattolica (ONLY 2 KM AWAY FROM US!!!) the fast wheels of the group should return to the scene.
The Giro should then descend from the Adriatic side, stopping in Ascoli and Termoli, and touching the southernmost point in Foggia.
In the central phase he will also pay homage to Alfredo Martini, on the centenary of his birth. After the restart from Siena, it is planned to move to Sesto Fiorentino, the town of the most successful national cycling coach, on the road that leads to Bagno di Romagna.
After the arrival in Verona, the arrival on Monte Zoncolan, scheduled for Saturday 22 May, is certain. However, we will go up from the less traveled side, that of Sutrio, faced only once by the Giro, in the 2003 edition with the success of Gilberto Simoni. After a very busy Friulian stage, arriving in Gorizia, a dolomitic hamlet with the Giau pass and the finish line in Cortina.
First an uphill arrival at Campo Felice is expected, then an individual time trial in Umbria, from Foligno to Perugia, and then a very suggestive and treacherous stage in Tuscany. In this last stage, with probable arrival in Montalcino, the dirt roads of Siena will be tackled, those dirt roads where in the 2010 edition Cadel Evans won a stage made heroic by bad weather.
Other climbs the following day with the arrival in Trentino at Sega di Ala.
The proposition of relatively new ascents is one of the most interesting themes of this Giro d’Italia 2021. After the stage from Rovereto to Bergamo it will in fact be the turn of the last two mountain hamlets, both on climbs to be discovered for great cycling. First we will return to Piedmont to climb to Alpe Mera, an ascent of almost 10 km at 9% average gradient. Then from Verbania we will face the last challenge in the mountains that will lead to Alpe Motta / Madesimo, in Val Chiavenna.
The conclusion will be Sunday 30 May in Milan with an individual time trial.
