Within the program Christmas in Venaria Reale of the City of Venaria Reale, from 13 December 2019 (with the inauguration at 17:30) until 6 January 2020, at the Municipal Exhibition Hall in Via Andrea Mensa 34, the exhibition is sponsored by the Municipality of Venaria Reale.
In the first half of the twentieth century the bicycle, in addition to being one of the major means of transport for mobility, served artisans such as farriers, knife-grinders, barbers, tailors, ice-cream makers, to move around the area and carry out their activities directly "at home" or in the streets and squares of the various countries and cities. They were poor trades, children of a world that was also poor, like that of the Italian rural realities, in which everyday objects were used and repaired up to a limit of wear for which it was impossible to reuse them, at least for the purpose for which they were born (and often they were readjusted for other uses, born into new life).
The ehibition is a cross-section of Italian history, from the end of the nineteenth century until the sixties and has an educational and social value for those who will have the pleasure of visiting it. exhibition reveals, in all its drama, the effort and effort to solve the problems of everyday life of the past and start living again, with the sweat of one's work, a dignified existence in the difficult post-war periods of the first and second world wars.
An exhibition that brings to mind images of the past and guides youngsters in discovering how mobility and the use of bicycles, a simple means par excellence, were at the center of the lives of citizens of the past. Once upon a time there was the toy vendor and the mobile cinema, the sturdy mail carrier, the copper boiler repairer, the priest, the doctor in charge, the glassmaker, the tailor, the ice cream seller, the figurine seller who at Christmas he made the traveling crib.
All on two wheels with human traction: the bicycle.
The bicycles on display are the example of imagination and practicality, in their modifications and adaptations. In summary of the Made in Italy that makes us proudly famous in the world. Everything according to the need of the craftsman. The exhibition is further enriched by period photos in black and white, made by Gianni Segato, reconstructing the social and cultural environment in which the artisans and their bicycles moved.
"The aim of this exhibition is to enhance the ancient crafts and craftsmanship, demonstrating to young people how our grandparents through sacrifices, perseverance and professionalism have carried on the economy of the past," says Gennaro Ciotola, president of 296 Model Venaria association ».
Antonio Iorio (collector and entrepreneur), Aurelio Arese (curator of the exhibition), Claudio Macario, president of Pro Loco Altessano Venaria Reale and Gianni Segato, collaborator of the exhibition «We believe that today, taking inspiration from the past, we can give the start of a new way of doing entrepreneurship. We have set up an exhibition that exhibits unique and nowhere to be found pieces, but also and above all brings out the trades that each of them made possible. The enhancement of the details of each bicycle, with meticulous accessories that recall the craft of those who rode them, characterizes the preparation with great attention to detail ». The original idea is by the collector Antonio Iorio, who put on an extraordinary and precious initiative.
The Municipal Exhibition Hall will light up with history and emotions. A pleasant return to the past with a glance towards the future. The exhibition will be enriched by some wooden works, scale reproductions of bicycle models, made by model maker Riccardo Mantovan. The works that are unique pieces, created by creating and establishing the scale, design and construction of all the individual parts that make up the model.
The exhibition, with free admission, can be visited at the Municipal Exhibition Hall, via Mensa 34, at 10:00 - 12:30 and 15:00 - 18:00. Open Friday, December 13, 2019 at 15:00, with inauguration at 17:30. On December 25th and January 1st the exhibition will be closed. Last day of visit 6 January 2020.
