Il suo record è stato stabilito su una discesa innevata di Vars (Alpi Francesi). 
Dopo tre anni di allenamento intensivo, all’età di 54 anni, Erik Barone è riuscito a raggiungere nel 2015 la velocità di 223,3km/h. 
L’impresa ha dell’incredibile soprattutto se si considera che il vento soffiava a 70km/H, la temperatura percepita era di circa -20°C e la superficie quasi completamente ghiacciata.
