Gli impiegati che pedaleranno per andare e tornare dal lavoro riceveranno circa cinque euro al giorno, somma che verrà raddoppiata – raggiungendo quasi i dieci euro – per coloro che rispetteranno l’iniziativa per più di metà anno.
I lavoratori riceveranno poi la somma promessa sotto forma di bonus alla fine dell’anno.
“Per qualche tempo ho pensato che sarebbe stato bello incentivare il ciclismo in qualche modo. Sono un ciclista appassionato e il denaro è chiaramente l’incentivo più ovvio”, ha detto Tim Chesney, uno dei responsabili dell’agenzia pubblicitaria Make Collective, che ha lanciato l’iniziativa.
“Il mio pensiero è che potrebbe rivelarsi una cosa veramente buona. Quando io stesso vado in bicicletta mi sento molto più energico, sento il mio sangue che fluisce”.
Chesney ha raccontato a Stuff che inizialmente alcuni impiegati erano riluttanti a causa della mancanza delle docce nell’ufficio, ma l’offerta di centinaia di euro in più nella busta paga alla fine ha convinto tutti, o quasi: cinque dei suoi sei impiegati alla fine ha aderito.
Lo sviluppatore dei software della compagnia Elliot Gilmore ha spiegato che la parte più difficile è riprendersi dal tragitto, una volta arrivato in ufficio, ma che il beneficio per la propria salute è meglio di un abbonamento in palestra.
La città di Christchurch ha più ciclisti di ogni altra città della Nuova Zelanda, e dispone di 13 grandi piste ciclabili che attraversano il centro della città, ridotto in un cumulo di macerie dai terremoti del 2010 e del 2011.
Julie Anne Genter, ministra dei trasporti, ha affermato che gli investimenti nelle piste ciclabili sono una caratteristica fondamentale della ricostruzione della città, e che il programma di costruzione delle piste ciclabili urbane costa più di 120 milioni di euro.

The employees who will pedal to go and get back from work will receive about five euros a day, a sum that will be doubled - reaching almost ten euros - for those who will respect the initiative for more than half a year.
Workers will then receive the promised sum in the form of bonuses at the end of the year.
"For some time I thought it would be nice to encourage cycling in some way. I am a passionate cyclist and money is clearly the most obvious incentive, "said Tim Chesney, one of the makers of the Make Collective advertising agency, which launched the initiative.
"My thought is that it could turn out to be a really good thing. When I ride myself I feel much more energetic, I feel my blood flowing. "
Chesney told Stuff that initially some employees were reluctant because of the lack of showers in the office, but the offer of hundreds of euros more in the paycheck eventually convinced everyone, or almost: five of his six employees at the end has joined.
Software developer Elliot Gilmore explained that the hardest part is to recover from the journey once you arrive at the office, but that the benefit to your health is better than a gym membership.
The city of Christchurch has more cyclists than any other city in New Zealand, and has 13 major cycle paths running through the city center, reduced to a heap of debris from the 2010 and 2011 earthquakes.
Transport minister Julie Anne Genter said that investment in cycle lanes is a key feature of the city's reconstruction, and that the urban cycle path construction program costs more than € 120 million.
"Safe cycling is a key part of making Christchurch a healthy, happy, vibrant and full of people, rather than traffic," said Genter.
