Un tour in bicicletta da Manchester a Castelfidardo in 19 tappe all’insegna della musica. Cycling Soundtrack è l’avventura della scorsa estate del giovane bassista e compositore Andrea Gobbi.

Andrea, originario di Castelfidardo, si è affacciato al mondo della musica fin da giovanissimo suonando prima la chitarra nella sua parrocchia e poi il clarinetto nella banda del paese. A 14 anni arriva la scoperta di gruppi come Nirvana, Rage Against the Machine, Led Zeppelin e della scena punk americana. La passione per questi generi esplode sia per Andrea che per i suoi amici, e nasce l’idea di dare vita ad una band.

«Tutti volevano suonare la chitarra, compreso me, e nessuno suonava il basso. Così mi sono deciso a comprare un basso – ci ha raccontato. Ma a meno che tu non sia un genio, per entrare nel panorama musicale devi andare in città e, come dicono tutti, farti i contatti – che per me è sempre stato più un suonare con quante più persone possibili».

Raggiunta la maggior età, dunque, Andrea si trasferisce a Milano e poi a Manchester per inseguire la sua passione, oggi diventata anche il suo lavoro. L’idea di tornare a casa in bicicletta nasce durante la primavera del 2019, un po’ per unire la voglia di avventura, l’attenzione all’ambiente e la passione per la musica. «Mi sono chiesto come fare spazio alla musica in questo viaggio, perché non mi sento a mio agio a suonare sulle strade. Ho pensato così di registrare le persone e i suoni che incrociavo lungo il mio percorso».

Buttate giù le tappe fra Gran Bretagna, Francia e Italia, e trovata ospitalità di amici, conoscenti, o attraverso comunità online come Couchsurfing e Warm-shower che sono solite ospitare viaggiatori provenienti da tutto il mondo, il 29 luglio Andrea parte. Armato di una tastiera MIDI, microfoni, un pc e recorder, Andrea pedala di tappa in tappa, a volte ritardando l’arrivo perché assorto a cogliere la bellezza di uno squarcio, il suono di una cascata o il verso di una mucca.
Le sere sono tutte diverse. A Londra, per esempio, incontra l’amico fonico Milo Benericetti che lo aveva accompagnato in un tour con i Soliti Idioti. Questa volta sta lavorando per Ludovico Einaudi, e fa conoscere ad Andrea due musicisti, violino e cello, che accompagnano il noto pianista. Federico Mecozzi e Radi Hasa si prestano così a suonare e a farsi registrare da Andrea. Altre sere, ad aprire la porta di casa e a suonare insieme ad Andrea sono stati musicisti amatoriali e perfino persone a digiuno di musica, che non mancavano tuttavia di inventiva e di entusiasmo. «La maggior parte degli ospitanti erano stati avvertiti in anticipo del progetto ed erano curiosi all’idea di ospitare questo personaggio che arrivava in bicicletta e ti voleva registrare».

Vivere ogni giorno in una casa diversa è stato bello ed elettrizzante, e l’entusiasmo per l’avventura spazzava regolarmente via la stanchezza del viaggio, che sta per diventare un film. Con l’uscita del documentario, prevista a marzo, oltre a raccontare la propria avventura, Andrea spera di veicolare due messaggi. Da una parte, che è possibile organizzare le proprie vacanze in modo diverso, e forse più semplice, girando in bicicletta e chiedendo ospitalità alle persone. Dall’altra che per fare musica non serve essere per forza musicisti virtuosi. «La musica non è solo scuola, è anche passione».

Andrea, originally from Castelfidardo, approached the world of music from a very young age playing first the guitar in his parish and then the clarinet in the town band. The passion for these genres explodes both for Andrea and his friends, and the idea of ​​giving life to a band was born.

«Everyone wanted to play the guitar, including me, and nobody played the bass. So I decided to buy a bass guitar - he told us. But unless you are a genius, to enter the music scene you have to go to the city and, as everyone says, make contact - which for me has always been more playing with as many people as possible ».

Having reached the age of majority, therefore, Andrea moved to Milan and then to Manchester to pursue his passion, which has now also become his job. The idea of ​​returning home by bicycle was born during the spring of 2019, a bit to combine the desire for adventure, attention to the environment and passion for music. «I asked myself how to make room for music on this trip, because I don't feel comfortable playing on the streets. So I thought of recording the people and the sounds I crossed along my path ».

Put down the stages between Great Britain, France and Italy, and found hospitality of friends, acquaintances, or through online communities such as Couchsurfing and Warm-showers who are used to hosting travelers from all over the world, Andrea leaves on 29 July. Armed with a MIDI keyboard, microphones, a PC and recorder, Andrea pedal from stage to stage, sometimes delaying the arrival because absorbed in capturing the beauty of a gash, the sound of a waterfall or the sound of a cow.

The evenings are all different. In London, for example, he meets his sound friend Milo Benericetti who accompanied him on a tour with the usual idiots. This time he is working for Ludovico Einaudi, and introduces Andrea to two musicians, violin and cello, who accompany the well-known pianist. Federico Mecozzi and Radi Hasa thus lend themselves to play and be recorded by Andrea. Other evenings, to open the door of the house and to play with Andrea were amateur musicians and even people fasting for music, who however did not lack inventiveness and enthusiasm. "Most of the hosts had been warned in advance of the project and were curious about the idea of ​​hosting this character who came by bicycle and wanted to register you."


Living every day in a different house was beautiful and electrifying, and the enthusiasm for the adventure regularly swept away the tiredness of the journey, which is about to become a film. With the release of the documentary, scheduled for March, in addition to telling his adventure, Andrea hopes to convey two messages. On the one hand, it is possible to organize your holidays in a different, and perhaps simpler, way, by cycling and asking people for hospitality. On the other hand, to make music you don't necessarily need to be virtuous musicians. «Music is not only school, it is also passion».
