Omar Di Felice è partito pochi giorni fa da Kamchatka, al confine tra Russia e Oriente, per un’avventura che lo porterà in Alaska, passando per Finlandia, Svezia e Norvegia, Groenlandia e Canada: Il Giro del Mondo Artico in bicicletta per portare l’attenzione dell’opinione pubblica sulla crisi climatica.
Un viaggio lungo 4000 km che, salvo imprevisti, terminerà a fine marzo.
L’impresa fa parte del progetto “Bike to 1.5°C”, lanciato in occasione della scorsa COP26, quando Omar ha raggiunto Glasgow da Milano, sempre in bicicletta.
La spedizione ora si svolge in una delle aree più a rischio del Pianeta sotto un profilo ambientale, le regioni più colpite dai cambiamenti climatici. L’Artico si riscalda a una velocità doppia rispetto al resto della Terra, di circa 1°C ogni decennio. Purtroppo si prevede che l’erosione costiera lungo le coste del permafrost continuerà a ritmi elevati o addirittura accelererà in risposta all’ulteriore riscaldamento climatico.
Da qui è nata l’urgenza dell’associazione Italian Climate Network di sostenere l’impresa. L’organizzazione approfondirà con Omar i tanti aspetti legati ai cambiamenti climatici dei Paesi del Polo Nord, con dirette insieme a scienziati, climatologi, geografi, politologi, ricercatori ed esperti di turismo sostenibile, toccando diversi temi, tra i quali: il ruolo dei media per la sensibilizzazione sui temi dei cambiamenti climatici, gli interessi geopolitici dei territori artici, clima ed emissioni, il ruolo della scienza nel monitoraggio della fusione dei ghiacci e tanti altri.
