Carl Grove perde il record del mondo

La piaga del doping è da sempre uno dei principali problemi del mondo del ciclismo, ma la storia che arriva dagli Stati Uniti ha quasi dell'incredibile. 

Carl Grove, che lo scorso luglio si era laureato campione Usa della categoria 90-94 anni, si è visto togliere il titolo (e con esso anche il record del mondo che aveva stabilito) perché trovato positivo ad uno steroide anabolizzante (epitrenbolone) al test antidoping a cui si è sottoposto dopo aver vinto i campionati Master in pista di Breinigsville, in Pennsylvania.

Alla fine Grove non è stato squalificato, ma ha ricevuto una lettera di avvertimento dall'Usada - l'agenzia statunitense antidoping - che ha accolto la sua tesi: alla vigilia della prova l'uomo avrebbe mangiato carne proveniente da un allevamento che usa ormoni della crescita. 

Grove ha così perso il titolo conquistato e anche il record del mondo, ma potrà riprovarci in futuro: alla gara che ha vinto a luglio non c'erano altri partecipanti nella sua fascia d'età.

Grove has thus lost the title and also the world record, but will try again in the future: the race that won in July there were no other participants in its age group.
