Cani e bici

Riding a bicycle with the dog on a leash, or even leaving him free to run alongside us, is prohibited by law: this is established by article 182, paragraph 3, of the Highway Code which states as "cyclists are prohibited from driving animals or towing by another vehicle ”, also establishing an administrative sanction from 22 to 88 euros.

The prohibition of the Highway Code certainly applies to any type of road traveled by motor vehicles, and it is therefore good to know that even just a bike ride in the city in the company of the dog can cause us to incur in the arrest by the municipal police or the brigade. urban. Moreover, in addition to the prohibition imposed by the Highway Code, there are also numerous local administrations that have issued local regulations inspired by the protection of animal welfare or that of other subjects on the road and which also concern cycle paths and city parks: for this reason first to get on the pedals in the company of your dog it is always advisable to check on the website of your municipality if there really exists such a local regulation and what restrictions it imposes.

Having said the prohibitions, there is also some common sense and health protection considerations to be made for our furry friend: not all breeds are in fact predisposed to running, and doing so at the speed that a bicycle can reach can be anything but beneficial. , if not really dangerous for the cardio-circulatory system of our Fido; for a dog, running next to a bicycle is not a spontaneous activity, and it is certainly not recommended to improvise a bike ride in the company of your dog; It must also be considered that the asphalt is highly abrasive for the paws of dogs, and forcing Fido to run at full speed next to our bicycle can cause injury to his fingertips.
