Bici in legno di castagno

Nasce da una collaborazione istituzionale tra l’Ente Parco Nazionale dell’Aspromonte ed il Dipartimento di Agraria dell’Università Mediterranea di Reggio Calabria, la prima bicicletta da corsa realizzata in legno di castagno d’Aspromonte.

 La sinergia, finalizzata allo sviluppo di attività comuni di studio e di ricerca scientifica volte a valorizzare le straordinarie peculiarità forestali ed ambientali dell’Aspromonte, ha condotto ad un percorso comune di straordinaria innovazione: La bici da corsa è stata infatti pensata con un telaio interamente costruito in legno di castagno aspromontano, in sezioni tubolari, assemblata e appositamente realizzata dalla Naturans Bike. 

Impressi sul telaio della bicicletta i due loghi delle istituzioni protagoniste del progetto, in evidenza la dicitura “Castagno d’Aspromonte” e il colibrì “Sergio”, in memoria del dott. Sergio Tralongo, Direttore del Parco, prematuramente  scomparso lo scorso anno

Il telaio è composto secondo la tipica geometria, da due triangoli, posterioreed anteriore. Le tavole vengono lavorate manualmente per ricavare i componenti cavi, che vengono fra loro assemblati e trattati adeguatamente per garantire le migliori prestazioni possibili. 
Il telaio in legno di Castagno è stato sottoposto a test ufficiali di omologazione in laboratorio e su strada, dimostrando che lo stesso si presta molto bene a questo utilizzo grazie ai valori di prova che sono stati tutti abbondantemente dentro la norma.

Frutto di una straordinaria sinergia Istituzionale, ha dimostrato che partendo da legname selezionato con grande cura in una area di elezione Aspromontana, passando attraverso un’accurata trasformazione eseguita in Calabria ed un’abile lavorazione si è potuto ottenere un prodotto finale non solo bello ed identificativo di un territorio incantevole, ma anche tecnologicamente evoluto.

Realizzato il primo modello, l’obiettivo è quello di replicarlo con l’apporto di artigiani e imprenditori dell’Aspromonte, aprendo nuovi possibili scenari produttivi ed imprenditoriali, con la possibilità di adattarlo alla realizzazione  di mountain bike e di e-bike, veicolando il chiaro messaggio che con il legno di castagno è possibile produrre strumenti di altissima tecnologia.

“La nuova sfida – ha dichiarato il Presidente del Parco Nazionale dell’Aspromonte, Leo Autelitano – è quella di coinvolgere giovani artigiani e imprese del territorio aspromontano per la realizzazione di bicilette con il legno di castagno, ma non solo, coniugando le opportunità di crescita economica e sviluppo sostenibile a quelle di valorizzazione di elementi caratteristici e identitari. Il Castagno è un legno dai molteplici utilizzi, storicamente, ha sempre conseguito risultati efficaci in molti ambiti, dall’artigianato all’edilizia. E’ una specie forestale caratterizzante i boschi Aspromontani, versatile, esteticamente piacevole sostenibile e disponibile, il cui impiego è da riscoprire attraverso la mano sapiente degli artigiani e di giovani volonterosi aperti a nuove opportunità occupazionali. Alcuni di questi fattori – ha concluso il Presidente Leo Autelitano – si sono rilevati decisivi per il buon esito di questo progetto”.

“Questa bici– ha spiegato il Direttore del Dipartimento di AGRARIA dell’Università Mediterranea di Reggio Calabria, Giuseppe Zimbalatti – testimonia, assieme alla straordinaria ricchezza del patrimonio forestale Calabrese,  tutta la qualità del legno dell’Aspromonte, di castagno in particolare. I suoi molteplici pregi sono stati decisivi nella scelta di impiegarlo nella realizzazione di una bici da corsa che deve possedere caratteristiche agonistiche, quindi estreme. Il legno di castagno dell’Aspromonte, ha dimostrato di possedere spiccate caratteristiche fisico- meccaniche, ben coniugate a doti di leggerezza e resistenza. La crescita di un territorio, nel caso specifico quello dell’Aspromonte, in termini di salvaguardia e valorizzazione del patrimonio forestale, ambientale, storico e culturale, passa anche attraverso attività scientifiche  di questo tipo che, oltre a conferire ulteriore dignità e visibilità,  aprono a nuovi possibili scenari produttivi ed imprenditoriali”  ha concluso il Direttore Giuseppe Zimbalatti”.

The first racing bicycle made of Aspromonte chestnut wood was born from an institutional collaboration between the Aspromonte National Park Authority and the Department of Agriculture of the Mediterranean University of Reggio Calabria.

 The synergy, aimed at the development of common study and scientific research activities aimed at enhancing the extraordinary forest and environmental peculiarities of the Aspromonte, has led to a common path of extraordinary innovation: The racing bike was in fact designed with an entirely built in chestnut wood from Aspromonte, in tubular sections, assembled and specially made by Naturans Bike.

The two logos of the institutions involved in the project are imprinted on the frame of the bicycle, with the words "Castagno d'Aspromonte" and the hummingbird "Sergio" in memory of Dr. Sergio Tralongo, Director of the Park, died prematurely last yearThe frame is composed according to the typical geometry, by two triangles, rear and front. The boards are processed manually to obtain the hollow components, which are assembled and treated appropriately to ensure the best possible performance.

The chestnut wood frame has been subjected to official homologation tests in the laboratory and on the road, demonstrating that it lends itself very well to this use thanks to the test values ​​that were all well within the standard.

The result of an extraordinary institutional synergy, it has shown that starting from wood selected with great care in an area of ​​Aspromontana, passing through an accurate transformation carried out in Calabria and skilful processing, it was possible to obtain a final product that is not only beautiful and identifying. of an enchanting territory, but also technologically advanced.

Once the first model has been created, the goal is to replicate it with the contribution of Aspromonte artisans and entrepreneurs, opening up new possible production and entrepreneurial scenarios, with the possibility of adapting it to the construction of mountain bikes and e-bikes, conveying the clear message that with chestnut wood it is possible to produce tools of the highest technology.
