500.000 bottigliette riciclate in 30 metri di pista su cui pedalare. Si chiama PlasticRoad la prima ciclabile realizzata con uno dei materiali più inquinanti della Terra recuperato e riusato. Per il 70% è fatta di quella stessa plastica che ormai ha invaso terra e oceani con 8,3 miliardi di tonnellate di rifiuti. La ciclabile "sostenibile" è stata inaugurata a Zwolle, nel Paese delle due ruote, dove è stata installata in poco tempo grazie alla sua struttura modulare.
A presentare il progetto pilota, prova su strada, i due creatori Anne Koudtaal e Simon Jorritsma, che a nome dell'azienda di infrastrutture stradali Kws ne hanno illustrato lo sviluppo dal 2013 a oggi. "Un grande passo verso la sostenibilità", hanno dichiarato soddisfatti. I moduli, cavi all'interno così da poter ospitare il passaggio di tubi o sensori che controllino lo stato e la temperatura della superficie - sono stati studiati per avere una durata tre volte tanto quella di una pista ciclabile tradizionale. Anche il peso del materiale stesso, risulta quattro volte più leggero di quello che viene in genere utilizzato per rivestire percorsi ciclabili.
Il nuovo tappeto rosso è il frutto di migliaia di bottigliette di plastica riciclate, è permeabile ed elimina il problema delle buche e dei dissesti che l'asfalto produce nel tempo. Anche se gli scettici temono la dispersione di particelle di plastica dovuta a calore e usura.
L'azienda produttrice, insieme a Wavin e Total, ha annunciato che la prossima PlasticRoad sarà installata a novembre a Overijssel e presenterà dei miglioramenti rispetto a quella appena inaugurata.
