Va ancora in bicicletta, con le sue, alla faccia dei novant’anni. «Vado pianino, ma faccio ancora qualche giretto: da casa alla bottega», dice lui uno degli ultimi veri meccanici che esistono ancora oggi a Milano.
"Sorrido alla vita perché la vita ancora mi appartiene. E poi cosa voglio di più? Sto bene e ho tanta gente che mi vuole bene. Da quasi due anni poi ho incontrato quattro amici in più che hanno deciso di darmi una mano, e un ragazzo di bottega come Alessandro, che è prezioso come pochi».

Quattro imprenditori con una passione vera per la bicicletta. Il più malato è un medico. «È grazie al suo intuito, alla sua sensibilità se oggi siamo tutti qui – racconta Gianluca Pozzi, amministratore delegato della nuova Cicli Drali – . Quando ha saputo che Beppino voleva chiudere bottega, abbiamo pensato di metterci in gioco e fare tutto il necessario per non interrompere questa storia. Il Drali è un patrimonio del ciclismo, così io, Angelo Mantovani, Robert Carrara e Andrea Camerana ci siamo messi assieme e in gioco dando vita a una gran bella squadra con un unico capitano: il Drali. L’obiettivo? Non gettare alle ortiche la storia di un uomo che ha percorso una gran bella fetta di storia della bicicletta che con le mani ci sa ancora fare e conosce tutti i segreti della bicicletta.».

La sua “Pokerissima” è splendida e sono in tanti a volerla. Sarà per questo ritorno al passato. Sarà per questa voglia di “vintage” e mania da “eroica”, ma le biciclette in acciaio conservano ancora oggi un fascino unico e tutto particolare. «È stato Carlo, mio padre, ad aprire l’officina nel lontano 1925. In quel periodo eravamo concessionari della Bianchi. Io ho appreso il mestiere dai grandi meccanici e telaisti di quel periodo come Pinella e Faliero Masi».

Girardengo, Binda, Bartali, Coppi, Maspes li ha conosciuti tutti e indirettamente o direttamente, ha fatto qualcosa per ognuno di loro. «Non esageriamo, ogni tanto passavano dentro. Papà era molto conosciuto e apprezzato, io mi sono sempre dato da fare. Se avevano qualche problema, noi c’eravamo». Chi non c’è più è la sua Marisa, l’amore della sua vita. «Siamo stati fianco a fianco per sessantadue anni più sette di fidanzamento. Quando è mancata mi sono sentito mancare anch’io... Poi questi quattro “ragazzacci” mi hanno convinto a non mollare, e sono felice di farlo».
